General Hospital spoilers tease that hardly anyone believes that Nelle Benson Jerome (Chloe Lanier) is really dead! Could she have faked her death, only to return later to wreak havoc? Here’s why we think she might return alive!
GH Updates – No Body Shown As Of Yet
First of all, it is a common soap opera trope to not show a character’s body-if the character is not really dead! Helena Cassadine, (Constance Towers) Robin Scorpio-Drake, (Kimberly McCullough), both her parents, Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) have all returned from the dead! In Helena’s case, she’s died and returned again several times! And let’s not forget Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) who was presumed dead for twenty-five years! Right now, Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) is presumed dead – but in her case, General Hospital showed her alive.
This is an exception because Miss Samms is recovering from long COVID. They will have to pick up her rescue later when she’s fully recovered. Usually, when a character really dies, another character who has died will escort them to heaven. We saw this just last week when Courtney Matthews (Alicia Leigh Willis) came to escort her father, Mike Corbin (Max Gail) to heaven. Another point to be made is that Detective Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) has still not been shown going to the morgue! He told everyone that there was a positive ID.
However, he was still going to the morgue to see for himself. “Positive ID” may just be Nelle’s drivers’ license that she may have put on a corpse. Remember, she was said to have washed up on the Pennsylvania side of the river. A body that has washed up after several days will be bloated and partially decomposed.
General Hospital Updates – Nelle Benson Could Have Killed Someone Who Looked Like Her
Remember, Nelle was an expert swimmer! General Hospital writers did not include in the script exactly how far she may have fallen. They did not specify how high the cliff was! People can learn how to maneuver their bodies when falling or jumping a great distance. Someone skilled in high dives can position themselves on the way down to prevent major injury or death. We’re not talking about falling from the top of a skyscraper, after all. Nelle would want to lay low for a while. She wouldn’t want to try kidnapping Wiley Corinthos (Erik and Theodore Olson) right away!

Faking her death would be the perfect way to come back at the right time and take her son. The police and the Corinthos family would never know where to look or who to suspect! Of course, since Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) is a Quartermaine, they could expect a call or a note for money. But that might be a call or a note that may never come!
Nelle wouldn’t redress a bloated corpse in her clothes or put her ID on her. Nelle would have watched for someone who looked enough like her and then kill her. More than likely, she would have killed her by holding her head underwater until she drowned. Then she would have redressed her in her clothes and put her ID in a pocket. Then she would have put the body in the river. Nelle’s no dummy!
