General Hospital Spoilers: Alexis And Sam Head To Grief Support Group, More To Her Drinking Than Addiction!
General Hospital spoilers tease that Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) will visit General Hospital so Alexis can check out their grief support program; after all, there is more to her drinking than just alcohol addiction!
General Hospital Spoilers – Alexis Davis May Be Drinking To Hide Her Grief And Possibly Depression
Alexis may just need to find a healthier coping mechanism than numbing herself with liquor. It is obvious she is grieving over Neil Byrne (Joe Flanigan) and quite possibly over Julian Jerome (William DeVry) although she will never admit it! That is why she’s cutting him out of all those photos. What teenage girl has not destroyed mementoes and photos of her first boyfriend who has broken her heart? Alexis herself was a teenager when she met Julian and Sam was conceived! Alexis had also had a tumultuous time period of drama and losses in the year or so preceding Neil’s death.
The two of them had gone back and forth between trying to be platonic friends, which didn’t work, and fighting off their attractions to each other which they had not been able to. As a result, both of them lost their licenses to practice their chosen professions.
Prior to that, there was the year or maybe more of worries over her daughter, Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Lexi Ainsworth) who had been involved in the Dawn of Day cult, and her own life being in danger from the sister of one of Kristina’s old boyfriends. Neil and Julian worked together to save her life from being killed by an off-the-rails Kendra Lennon (Michelle Argyris), the older sister of Kiefer Bauer (Christian Alexander).
That all has likely built up in her both emotionally and mentally, and a Cassadine, even a female Cassadine, can never appear weak! So Alexis uses alcohol as a coping mechanism for her grief – the first time was when she and Julian broke up after Olivia Jerome (Tonja Walker) forced Julian into mistreating Alexis, and Julian helped her stop. The second time was when Neil died.
General Hospital Spoilers – It Is Always Best To Identify And Treat The Root Causes Of Any Addiction
Alcoholism is an addiction just like drugs are, and addictions can take many forms. People can be addicted to gambling, to relationships, and even to cleaning their houses! The addiction can always return if the root causes behind it are not identified and treated, and even then drugs and alcohol have a physical component to the addiction as well. Sam goes with her mother for support to check out an initial meeting of a grief support group at General Hospital. It is difficult for a person to make a first step into a group of people that may be strangers, although for some it may be easier.
The anonymity of the group can be less embarrassing for some and easier to open up to. Alexis is already in an Alcoholics Anoymous group, and considering Dr. Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) is her sponsor, it may actually be a combined AA and NA, meaning Narcotics Anonymous group. Longtime General Hospital viewers will recall he dealt with addiction to a drug he was using to help with the Blackwood’s Syndrome he dealt with before coming up with a cure from his therapy pet Roxie, a bearded dragon. If Alexis can get a handle on her emotional pain and deal with it, then alcohol won’t be such a temptation.
