General Hospital (GH) Spoilers: Special Sonya Eddy-Centric Tribute Episode To Air End Of March
General Hospital (GH) spoilers and updates tease that the show will air a special Sonya Eddy-centric tribute episode at the end of March, kicking off the Nurses’ Ball and the 60th anniversary. The 60th anniversary of GH will be April 1, 2023, and the announcement was made on Wednesday, January 10 at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California.
General Hospital Spoilers – Head Nurse Epiphany Johnson
Ms. Eddy passed away due to unexpected surgical complications on December 19, 2022. She played Head Nurse Epiphany Johnson starting in 2006, replacing Audrey Hardy (Rachel Ames) when both the character and the actress retired. Epiphany appeared not only on General Hospital but also on the SoapNet GH spinoff Night Shift from July 2007-October 2008.
Epiphany frequently had the position of Nursing Instructor at General Hospital in addition to being head nurse, and at the time of her portrayer’s death was studying to become a doctor. Most recently, she was involved in a semi-romantic relationship with Marshall Ashford (Robert Gossett) with whom she shared a hobby of music-he played, she sang.
General Hosptial Updates – Nurses’ Ball Star
Epiphany had a robust singing voice and was a frequent star of the show at the Nurses’ Ball. Although she never married, early in her General Hospital career she dated a janitor named Toussaint Dubois (Billy Dee Williams) and later Milo Giambetti (Drew Cheetwood). She had one son, Stan Johnson (Kiko Ellsworth) who unfortunately was killed in a mob hit ordered by Jerry Jacks (Sebastian Roche). Epiphany was not someone people wanted to mess with, she would set them straight in a heartbeat and when she said go, people went. She was a strong woman in spite of losing her son and suffering from heart disease and diabetes.
Sonya Eddy’s Other Endeavors
Although she was best known probably as her General Hospital character Epiphany, Sonya was in many well-known primetime series either as a recurring character or guest. She also was in many films between the years 1995 and 2022, also voicing characters in video games, so she kept quite busy working. With the Nurses’ Ball starting on April 3 and the 60th Anniversary of General Hospital occurring on April 1, a Saturday, most likely the tribute episode will air Friday, March 31.
Sonya Eddy is already missed by the cast, crew, and friends as well as fans. It will be interesting to see what the tribute episode includes.
