General Hospital (GH) Spoilers: Charles Shaughnessy Speaks Out On Joining GH
General Hospital (GH) Charles Shaughnessy recently returned to General Hospital with a new identity. Gone is Holly Sutton’s (Emma Samms) cousin Alistair Crawford (Charles Shaughnessy). Of course, Shaughnessy only played Alistair for a week, some fans don’t remember his character at all. Now Charles is back as the villainous Victor Cassadine looking for revenge.
Charles Credits Emma
General Hospital’s Shaughnessy credits Emma for his Days role of Shane Donovan. Emma pointed Charles out to Days producer Shelley Curtis who listened to her suggestion. Shane became very popular and part of the duo of Shane and Kimberly Brady Donovan (Patsy Pease). Shane fell or the former call girl and the two are still married on the show today. Shaughnessy just finished a stint on Days of Our Lives – Beyond Salem on Peacock. Charles also played Drew Donovan as well. Shane is mentioned quite often on Days although he is rarely seen these days. However, fans can now see Charles in a completely different element as the evil Victor.
How Long Will Victor Be Around?
General Hospital hired Shaughnessy as Victor in a contract role that last at least six months. Of course, Days fans know that Victor was formerly played by Days castmate Thaao Penghlis. Shaughnessy is looking forward to playing Victor and doing something different. Victor is a far cry for ISA agent Shane. Charles believes it will be a lot of fun to resurrect this character and add his own spin to Victor. After all, soaps are usually the only genre that brings people back from the dead and changes the actor without a thought. Soap fans are accustomed to such changes.
Charles Is Among Friends
General Hospital’s Shaughnessy used to work with Wally Kurth (Ned Quartermaine) who also plays Justin Kiriakis on Days of Our Lives. Shane worked for years to take down Justin’s uncle Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston). Shaughnessy also co-starred with Finola Hughes on an episode of CSI: NY and rented her apartment in Manhattan for six months.
Shaughnessy also praises Kathleen Gati who plays Liesl Obrecht. Shaughnessy says Kathleen took him under her wing and showed him the ropes. Charles loves working with Kathleen and they have similar styles of rehearsing which works very well for them. Charles also did his homework on Victor and asked the writers what they expected with the character. The actor says he is looking forward to paying a psychopath and playing a character with no moral compass is very appealing.
Charles has just taken over the role but his interaction with Kathleen has proved to be classic Liesl and Victor. We look forward to seeing more of Charles spin on Victor in the future.
