General Hospital’s Most Ridiculous Story of 2021 — Maxie’s Baby Switch
General Hospital might have had something interesting going with Maxie Jones’ little baby switch scheme, but it became way too convoluted way too fast for it to work and now the entire thing is just ridiculous and needs to end.
Why Did GH’s Maxie Need Another Baby?
The first mistake GH made with the Maxie (Kirsten Storms) baby switch was giving Maxie a baby to hand Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) to begin with. Why did Maxie need another baby? She already had two from two different baby daddies and didn’t need a third from a third baby daddy — especially when that baby daddy was Peter August (Wes Ramsey). He is a universally hated character who the show just refuses to get rid of no matter how much fans cry out and beg. Did Maxie need to reproduce yet again with him?
The soap even had a chance to fix this after first dropping the anvil that Maxie was pregnant. They had MONTHS when taping was shut down when the pandemic began, but they went ahead with it anyway and only had Maxie realize she was with a literal unkillable monster more than halfway through.
Bailey Louise Seemed Interesting At First
Maxie giving her baby to Brook Lynn after Brook faked a pregnancy actually worked at first. Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) became attached and we knew when he learned Bailey wasn’t his he’d be heartbroken and Maxie seemed like a woman with a kidnapped baby.
But then she didn’t seem like a woman with a kidnapped baby at all and the people who would want to find the baby have stopped and started that search so many times we’ve lost count. Now Valentin knows the baby isn’t his and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) became the baby daddy. Say what? And Brook and Chase told Maxie she is not allowed to tell Valentin the truth. This is MAXIE’S baby. Why is she listening to them?
Why would Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) say Valentin wouldn‘t help if he knew the truth. He loves children and he hates Peter. He would help. As would Anna Devane (Finola Hughes). Why not tell her. Anna and Valentin are a team now and could fix this whole mess quickly.
Between Peter never dying and the Bailey Louise story going on way too long taking insane turns, this is definitely the soap’s most ridiculous story of 2021. Stay tuned to General Hospital weekdays to see what happens in this baby mess next.
Wrong. Sonny as Mike, falling in love with Nina is by far the stupidest thing I have ever had the misfortune to have to suffer through. The baby switch is convoluted and annoying but a typical soap story. Turning mob boss Sonny Corinthians into a flannel wearing country bumpkin who falls for Nina who’s mourning her psycho daughter is ridiculous.
