GH’s Cameron Mathison Returns For Cancer Scans

In 2021, General Hospital (GH) star Cameron Mathison (Drew Cain) opened up about his cancer diagnosis in 2019. Well, he’s talking about it again on social media. Read on to find out what’s going on with the ABC soap star.
Medical Checkup Awareness
On Wednesday this week, the real-life Drew Cain posted a photo on Instagram that showed him undergoing an MRI scan. Actually, it’s good that he does that sort of thing. Why? Well, people who have had cancer sometimes feel too afraid to go for follow-up scans. And sometimes, folks who haven’t have it fear the outcome.

In his caption, Cameron Mathison wrote:
Six-year cancer checkup day.
Blood work, CT scan, X-rays.
Grateful to be here. I’ll keep you posted.
ABC Fans React
In the comments section, many GH fans rushed to have their say. In fact, over 1000 of them took the time to comment. Some of them were cast members, and Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) wrote, “you got this brother.”
Meanwhile, Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) and Laura Wright (Carly Spencer) sent praying emojis.
Further down, one fan commented, “Cam, you are truly amazing! May God bless you for many more years to come! Sending lots of love and hugs positive vibes.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- You’ve got this, Cameron! Sending good vibes, grateful for your inspiration!
- Prayers to Heaven, buddy!!! Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
- Positive energy & vibes are being sent your way.
- Good luck, all scans come back clear.
- Let’s keep it clear and cancer-free, my friend.
The Importance Of Cancer Awareness
As you can see, some folks feel that Cameron Mathison is inspirational by sharing. Actually, he probably understands how scary the disease can be as he was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma in his right kidney.
Fortunately, he got fast treatment, so it didn’t spread anywhere else. Apparently, because he lives a healthy lifestyle, that helped contain it in one area. Well, his workouts also inspire his many General Hospital fans. So, he brings health awareness on two levels.
Other GH Cancer Sufferers
Of course, Mathison’s not the only member of the GH cast who got cancer. Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio) on the ABC soap was diagnosed with cancer, and unfortunately, he passed away last year.
Then there was John J. York (Mac Scorpio) who was diagnosed with more than one cancer. They were myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and multiple smoldering myeloma.
Annie Wersching, who starred in the role of Amelia Joffe fought her cancer and that diagnosis arrived in 2022. Sadly, she passed away in 2023.
Well, fans all pray for Cameron Mathison because everyone wants him to stay in good health. If and when he updates his followers, we’ll be sure to let you know, so remember to come back here often for all your General Hospital cast news and updates.
