Love rules the land of Port Charles, and there was plenty of romance in 2023 on the soap. While there are several great super couples in General Hospital (GH), one stands above the rest to be called “the best of the best”.
Olivia & Ned Quartermaine
Many GH fans were disappointed when Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) slipped on a towel and fell into the Metro Court pool this past summer.
Not only because he suffered a brain injury and developed amnesia, but it also stopped him from revealing the truth about Nina Reeves’s (Cynthia Watros) SEC secret.
Still, while viewers were happy to see that he ended up okay, believing he was his alter ego, rockstar Eddie Maine, proved to be an interesting plot twist.
Even more interesting than the dose of nostalgia longtime viewers experienced, was how Oliva Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero) went from angry, to accepting, to falling in love with all parts of Ned, including his odd ‘80s persona.
Honorable Mentions
Sprina fans may get a tad angry that they don’t see Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) and Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) at the top of the list. The two defied insurmountable odds this year, and watching their love grow onscreen has been terrific.
However, it’s hard not to mention the elephant in the room, which is Spence’s obsession with his baby brother Ace Cassadine (Jay and Joey Clay), as well as the sparks that occasionally fly between him and Esme Prince (Avery Pohl) as they are “co-parenting”.
Massive Fails
Sadly, circumstances have caused Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) to break up, despite bringing down Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) earlier in the year.
Nina and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) could’ve topped the best GH couple list, had it not been for her pesky little SEC secret. After all, they did get hitched in a beautiful and private ceremony in Puerto Rico.
Speaking of SEC, Darly fans may be disappointed not seeing Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) and Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) as a “top couple”; however, Drew’s doormat-ish ways when it comes to Carly is one major reason, they didn’t score the top spot.
