Maurice Benard, best known on General Hospital (GH) as the crime boss Sonny Corinthos, often speaks positively about his work and fellow cast members on the ABC show. Recently, the drama star again shared his feelings on social media.
The Home-From-Home Workplace
On April 15, the actor posted a reel on his Instagram profile, reminding his GH followers that early in his career, he had considered leaving the show. He then noted that “32 years later,” he is still there.
Shaking his head, he remarked that he has always been “fond of the characters.” However, he also said that it’s the people who have consistently supported him. He acknowledged going through challenges, but his fellow cast members have always stood by him.
His caption read, “As I was figuring out what to write all I can say is. When you’ve played a character for over 32 years which is more than half my life. all I can think of is the generosity love and always my home away from home.”
Fans React In The Comments
Fans responded to his post and one of them commented on their long-standing admiration for him. They wrote, “You are the greatest. You are number 1. We love Sonny too. Will always be here for you.”
Another fan told Maurice Benard, “Still one of my only TV crushes 🥰🥰🥰🥰 we love you!!” Further comments included appreciation for his work on the daytime show and his podcast, “State of Mind.” One fan said that they felt “fortunate,” that he’s around. The Cast Support The Actor
Away from his role as the tough Sonny Corinthos, Maurice seems like a warm-hearted person. Recently, he acknowledged his co-star Lisa LoCicero, who plays Olivia Quartermaine, saying she’s like “family to him.”
In real life, Maurice and Lisa LoCicero seem to share a genuine friendship. Additionally, he helps others with his podcast and often interviews members of the show who also struggle with mental health.
Reaching Out To Others
Maurice Benard, who has struggled with anxiety and depression, sometimes reaches out to other people. On March 14, Maurice Benard announced on social media that his “State of Mind” podcast would feature Asher Antonyzyn, who plays Danny Morgan on the ABC show.
The episode aired on Sunday, March 16, and focused on Antonyzyn’s Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). He has played the role of Danny Morgan since 2023. Benard said he is fond of the young man.
Finn Carr, who played Rocco Falconeri, also chatted with Maurice about depression and anxiety. Plenty of other discussions have occurred. So, it seems like Maurice Benard is not only loved by the cast, but appreciated for the way he supports them.
