Monica Was An Orphan
General Hospital’s Monica Quartermaine was born May 4, 1950, making her 71 years old. Monica grew up in an orphanage and was fostered by Gail Baldwin (Susan Brown). However, Gail’s husband raped her. Gail didn’t know this for years however, Monica’s experience allowed her to help Laura Webber (Genie Frances) when she was raped. Monica went on to become a cardiologist and made a good life for herself. Monica was engaged to David Langston before coming to Port Charles. David was presumed dead after being drafted to Vietnam. Monica was pregnant and gave their daughter up for adoption to focus on her medical career. Monica got engaged to Rick Webber (Chris Robinson) before he left for Africa and turned up missing. Monica turned to Jeff Webber (Richard Dean Anderson) for comfort and married him. Monica and Jeff divorced in 1977.
Monica And Alan Marry
General Hospital’s Monica began dating Alan and they married in 1978 and he bought her the Quartermaine mansion. Alan’s family ended up living in the mansion as well. Monica gave birth to her son A.J. Quartermaine (Sean Kanan) who she believed was Rick’s son but later learned that he belonged to Alan. Monica and Alan stayed together even after her affair. Monica also later adopted Alan’s son Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) the product of an affair with Susan Moore (Gail Ramsey) and found out years later there was a twin named Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) who Susan gave away.
Monica Is Still Working At GH
After being let go at one point Monica is back working at General Hospital. Monica lost her position as Chief of Staff after being involved in a forgery so that her great-grandson could have needed heart surgery. However, eventually, Monica got her job back and still works as a cardiologist. Monica now has a close relationship with Jason again and will soon have Drew back as well. Monica has lost her biological children but is still surrounded by family. Monica is a very important part of the show and hopefully will remain so for many years to come.
Leslie, who is now 76 years old has played Monica since 1977. Monica had to be recast shortly in 2018 after Leslie was injured.
