General Hospital Star Emma Samms Has COVID Again

General Hospital star Emma Samms, who has been open about her battle with Long Covid, has tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time.

Emma Samms Long Fight With COVID

Emma Samms, who has been long known as General Hospital’s Holly and had a stint as Dynasty’s Fallon in the late 1980s, took to Twitter on June 15 to announce that she once again has COVID-19, the virus she caught back in 2020 during the first wave of the pandemic.

“So, what I thought was just bad PESE (Post-Exertional Symptom Exacerbation) is actually another round with Covid and I tested positive this morning,” Samms tweeted on Wednesday night. “Antivirals aren’t available. Any reinfected Long Covid folks out there who can tell me what I might expect?”

Long COVID Has Affected Samms’ Overall Life

Samms has been very open about her battle with Long Covid, and one year after she had contracted the virus for the first time, opened up to People about her experience.

“The fatigue that comes with Long COVID is not regular fatigue, it’s not where I feel a bit sleepy,” Samms said. “It’s the kind that you might imagine marathon runners feeling when you see them staggering over a finish line and they can barely stand up. Some days I don’t want to get out of bed even if I have to go to the bathroom. Even that feels like too much effort.”

Still, Samms remained pragmatic about things one year into this new syndrome. “I’m well aware that I am one of the lucky ones. So many people have had much, much more horrendous outcomes from COVID,” Samms said. “And I’m not going to allow myself to worry about the possibility of being like this forever.”

Living with the symptoms of COVID on an almost permanent basis has kept Samms from continuing Holly’s story on GH, as the character was presumed dead nearly two years ago, with fans knowing she is still alive and being held captive somewhere. Samms has not yet been well enough to resume that storyline in LA, as she lives back home in her native England. Even her last scenes as Holly when fans saw her locked in a room were filmed in Samms’ own home.

We wish Samms a speedy recovery from this latest bout with COVID and hope she doesn’t have any more long-lasting symptoms.
