General Hospital Spoilers: Is Love On The Horizon For Sonny In 2026 — and Will It Be Someone New or Old?
General Hospital spoilers claim Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) may find a love interest in the new year, and it’s likely that most fans will celebrate such a development.
Listen, we’ve seen this guy through decades of romances — and bromances! Nothing is more exciting than the push and pull that comes with a tumultuous and dramatic relationship with Sonny. There’s just one problem…that was the old Sonny.
The new Sonny, who endured a dramatic change that softened him when he spent a year as “Mike” in Nixon Falls, is a far cry from the fiery guy from his past love stories.
So I’m not sure how I feel about the idea of another relationship that is cheesy and lackluster like it was with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros). At the same time, Maurice has made himself quite clear about how he feels about his former character, and the evolution Sonny has made.
Either way, Maurice spoke out recently saying his New Year’s wish for Sonny was that he thinks he will find love. So will it be fresh and brand new, or a reboot from the past?
A Fresh Take Might Feel Fake
Let’s be honest. Most of the fanbase wasn’t thrilled with Nina and “Mike” — and having him remember who he was as Sonny and then forgive her was a little bit traumatizing for us OG’s.
Sonny has always been passionate more so than gushy romantic. Seeing him lose his edge in that way — even if it was better for Maurice and a change of pace — was tough.
We’ve known this guy as one thing for all these years, and suddenly, he’s a sap? I worry that a brand new love story would mean more over-the-top romance without any of the strength, burning desire, or borderline volatile moods that came with Sonny’s love stories of the past.
GH Spoilers Leak His Romantic Resumé is Anything But Limiting
Of course, a reboot romance with Nina also might be a real gusher that doesn’t deliver the same darkness Sonny did in the “olden days.” But aside from her, I’d welcome just about any of the women from his past. Obviously, Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) will always be a contender, but it seems like she’s so far outside his orbit lately.
The likes of Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil) would make the fans show up on the edges of their seats, but I’m wondering if something more isn’t still in store with Ava Jerome (Maura West).
Think about it. Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) currently has Sonny and Laura Collins (Genie Francis) under his thumb, and Laura just found out Ava might be a potential ally for them.
Could Ava come back around and save Sonny from Sidwell — reuniting with him and going farther than that kiss they shared in early 2024?
Sonny So Soft
Ava is on the hunt for a powerful man who will release her from the confines of her tiny, dated apartment and catapult her back into a wealthier echelon among Port Charles’ most elite. Sidwell could do it, but she already shares a child with Sonny and things have been good between them.
Besides, she isn’t going to be down with Sidwell hurting or blackmailing her baby daddy, despite their past melodrama. But if Sonny is going to appeal to Ava in a romantic way, he might have to pull out some of his older moves.
Ava likes edgy, pull and push, up and down. She kind of liked bipolar Sonny, to be honest. While nobody needs to go off their meds or their rockers this time around, I’d love to see Sonny a little sharper and stronger than he has been since Nixon Falls. How about you?
