General Hospital Spoilers: Celebrating Carly Spencer Over The Years, The Three Actresses Reflect
General Hospital (GH) spoilers hint that the show’s 60th-anniversary celebration will be an incredible one. An iconic character that has made an impact over the years is Carly Spencer (Laura Wright). While technically Carly’s been played by four actresses, three continue to stand out in the minds of fans everywhere. Soap Opera Digest (SOD) recently showcased a retrospective article on the three Carlys.
GH Spoilers: OG Carly, Sarah Brown, Wanted Laura Wright To Succeed Her
Actress Sarah Brown was the original Carly Spencer, debuting in Port Charles in 1996, tells SOD that when she decided to leave the role in 2001, she suggested actress Laura Wright (current Carly Spencer) be the recast. As Brown notes in her SOD interview, she believed in Wright’s talent and that she could “carry” the Carly torch.
Brown says that whenever Laura was on television, she would stop and watch. She “admired” the actress, and believe Wright would be the best person for the role to help the character evolve. Of course, most fans know that GH ended up going with actress Tamara Braun.

While every fan has their favorite “Carly” is undeniable that Braun had a successful run as the second Ms. Corinthos, from 2001 to 2005. During another anniversary episode in 2014, all three actresses returned to the show to do different scenes with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). Tamara told SOD that when she entered the set and saw Sarah Brown filming her piece with Benard, it was the first time she saw what so many people had raved about for years: the resemblance she shares with Brown.
In fact, Braun reveals that over the years her mom made a scrapbook of her time on GH as Carly. She states that while sifting through it one day she noticed her mom accidentally placed a photo of Brown in there, instead of her daughter. Braun would tell Brown the story, and Sarah notes that her dad did the very same thing at one point!
