Why General Hospital Needs To Stop Romanticizing Jason Morgan

General Hospital (GH) spoilers and updates tease that they were forced to ‘kill’ off Jason Morgan for the second time in 10 years, but most of our Port Charles pals barely remember he was already dead and now they are just playing a re-run of a story we already saw before. Except for this time, it feels hollow for more than one reason.

General Hospital Spoilers –  Jason Morgan Was NOT A Hero

First, we know that each time Jason had to die, it was Steve Burton’s own choice. He chose to leave GH the first time to create a new role on The Young and the Restless as Dylan McAvoy. This time, he chose not to get vaccinated against Covid-19, and since Disney has a vaccine mandate and owns General Hospital, Burton chose for the show to let him go. But unlike Ingo Rademacher, whom GH had to let go for the same reason, revising the story quickly along the way, Jason Morgan is getting a five-star salute he really doesn’t deserve from characters who would typically not give it to him.

For example, Drew (Cameron Mathison) may have been Jason’s twin brother (despite Drew having plastic surgery that changed his entire look), but when were these two men even close? They never knew about one another until a few years ago and even then Drew resented Jason, as Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) chose the original recipe version over him. Now, Drew is in serious mourning for a man he never really cared about and shared a few bonding moments with during the last few days of his life. Make it make sense!

General Hospital Updates – Britt Westbourne Acts Like She Never Loved Another

Then there’s Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud), who slept with Jason ONE time before being unceremoniously dumped so he could marry Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright), acting like Jason was the one great love of her life despite them even going on an official date. Even Sam isn’t mourning Jason in the same way that Britt is and they shared a child and a life together as man and wife.

Even Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Drew’s reunion scene at Kelly’s was marred by the talk of Jason, placing the man on a pedestal as a flawless hero who would do anything for anyone. Um, unless they got in the way of his mafia business and he had to kill them. Because Jason Quartermaine may have been Alan and Monica’s golden child, but Jason Morgan was a hitman and to portray him as a man of virtue is criminal. Stay tuned to General Hospital weekdays to see if Port Charles ever stops mourning Jason.
