Dean Geyer is about to step into the daytime TV spotlight on General Hospital (GH). In July the actor debuts as Tristan Roberts. Let’s take a deeper look at him as á person before he morphs into a character on the ABC soap.
The Debut On A Milestone
According to a report by Soap Opera Digest, Geyer signed a contract for the role and began filming just over a month ago. His first on-screen appearance aligns with a major television milestone.
Fans will see him for the first time during the soap opera’s historic 16,000th episode.
The character’s name carries heavy emotional weight for long-time viewers. Many soap fans have noted that the name Tristan Roberts appears to pay tribute to the late Tristan Rogers.
ABC fans knew Tristan Rogers best for playing the iconic spy Robert Scorpio, a role he originated in 1980 and reprised many times over the decades until his death last August.
Celeb Dirty Laundry noted the close association to Tristan Rogers and Dean’s background in martial arts. They hinted that perhaps “Geyer can put his skills to good use on-screen at some point if the role calls for it.”
Exactly what Roberts will be doing in Port Charles remains a secret. However, given Geyer’s musical history, plenty of fans are guessing he might end up singing at the local clubs.
A Diverse Life
Before he ever set foot in Port Charles, Geyer built a career across three different continents. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1986.
At age 15, his family packed up and relocated to Melbourne, Australia. He also happens to come from a family of serious martial arts experts.
His grandfather, Stan Schmidt, reportedly brought karate to South Africa. His father, Keith Geyer, is a highly respected sensei.
Dean followed the family business closely. He earned a fourth-degree black belt, a skill that eventually came in handy for his Hollywood career.
Music Gave Him A Break
Music gave Geyer his first taste of real fame. In 2006, he auditioned for the fourth season of Australian Idol.
Audiences loved his acoustic guitar skills and original songs. He ended up placed third in the competition. Not bad at all.
His most memorable moment on the show was performing “Change,” a track he wrote himself about his big move from South Africa to Australia.
Following his success on the talent show, Sony BMG signed him to a record deal.
His 2007 pop-rock album, Rush, went all the way to number seven on the ARIA charts. He spent the next year touring Australia and even took home the “Fave Hottie” award at the 2009 Nickelodeon Australian Kids’ Choice Awards.
That is an actual award that exists.
Acting For Over A Decade
Acting quickly followed the music. In 2008, Geyer landed the role of Ty Harper on the Australian soap opera Neighbours. He shared the screen with a young Margot Robbie, who went on to do decent things in Hollywood.
By 2010, Geyer packed his bags again and moved to Los Angeles. His martial arts training paid off when he scored a role as an MMA fighter in the 2011 movie Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown.
A Rising Star
American TV networks soon took notice of the newcomer. He booked a role as Mark Reynolds in the Steven Spielberg-produced science fiction series Terra Nova in 2011.
Shortly after, he joined the cast of Glee for its fourth season. He played Brody Weston, a clean-cut upperclassman who became a love interest for Rachel Berry.
Perhaps you also remember Dean Geyer from episodes of 9-1-1, the movie Zoey 102, and several holiday television movies.
Metro reported that during some past internet drama involving his former Glee co-star Lea Michele, Geyer publicly defended her. He believes that she was always welcoming and professional to him on set.
Personal Milestones
His personal life is also hitting major milestones in 2026. Geyer has been married to American actress Jillian Murray since 2017.
The two originally met while filming Never Back Down 2. In April, the couple shared some big news on social media. They are expecting their very first child together.
In an online post, Geyer explained that he felt “beyond blessed” to start a family. Right now, they share a home with two dogs named Lyric and Hazel.
Years before meeting Murray, Geyer was briefly engaged to Australian pop star Lisa Origliasso from the band The Veronicas back in 2008.
A Return With Jason Morgan
Now, Geyer is returning to his soap opera roots. A promo teaser shared by TV Insider confirmed his arrival alongside other major casting updates, including the ongoing return of fan-favorite Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
From reality TV contestant to primetime player, Dean Geyer is now taking on daytime drama. Port Charles better buckle up, because his arrival is bound to shake things up.
