GH Maurice Benard Reveals Most Impactful Podcast Stories

General Hospital star Maurice Benard, who plays the role of Sonny Corinthos on the ABC daytime drama, opened up during a recent podcast and talked about some of his State of Mind guests. He revealed how some of these mental health awareness podcasts were impactful. Read on for more details.
A Podcast With Richard Tate
On Sunday, GH fans searched in vain for Maurice and his usual podcast on YouTube. Perhaps he’s winding down because he is moving his podcast over to Patreon. However, he did chat with another person on their podcast. He was hosted by Richard Taite on the We’re Out of Time podcast.

The duo talked about Maurice and his long career as Sonny Corinthos. Additionally, he mentioned his retirement plans. If you worry he’s leaving the show in the very near future, that seems not to be the case.
However, a lot of the chat was about the ABC star’s work with mental health. So, at the 26:05 marker, Taite asked Benard, “You’ve had some incredible guests…who stood out the most?”
Real Stories That Touched Maurice
Maurice told Richard, “Well, for me, you know, Stephen A. Smith was great. Love him. Frank Grillo from all those movies and everything, he was great.”
Next, he added, “But what stands out to me is when a cop comes on. We were talking about darkness and whatnot, and I said to him, ‘It’s pretty safe to say our wives saved our life, right?'” Well the cop said, ‘No.'” So, Benard asked ‘But what saved your life? Who saved your life?'”
Maurice continued by recalling that the officer shared a life-saving story: “Because one night I was in my darkest and I took my gun and I put it to my forehead and the gun jammed.” Shocked, Maurice added, that the cop also said, ‘ that saved my life.’ Cuz after that, I changed completely.”‘
Other Memorable Podcasts
Adding to his recollections, the GH star shared another memorable story. He said, “Another girl who came on, she had no hand or arm from the elbow. I asked how it happened, and she said, ‘Well, I was driving and I had my hand out and this truck hit me.'”
Then, he related how she said, “she’ll never forget when the doctor came in and said, ‘I got good news and bad news. Good news is you’re alive. Bad news is you’ll never use that hand again.'”
Maurice concluded, “But that that’s the kind of stuff that you don’t forget. It doesn’t have to be celebrities. I had Sheryl Underwood tell me her husband jumped off a building.” Actually, she appeared on the podcast back in 2021.
Helping Others
There were no comments after the live chat ended. However, in the past, the ABC star has drawn a lot of discussion about how State of Mind helped them. Plus, it’s an exciting chapter in the life of Maurice Benard, who hopes to take his awareness project to the streets and the homeless.
