Johnny Wactor: GH Star’s Murder Case Continues In 2026
Tragic 2024 murder of GH star Johnny Wactor sees suspects Robert Barceleau & Sergio Estrada's case drag into 2026.

General Hospital (GH) star Johnny Wactor (Brando Corbin) exited the ABC daytime drama in a deadly encounter with The Hook (Heather Webber). Sadly, the fictional associate of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) also died in real life. What’s going on with his murder in 2026? Read on for more details.
The Murder
Sadly, after living and working in fictional Port Charles, in real life, Johnny Wactor died two years after he exited GH. Naturally, ABC fans felt horrified when they learned that real-life Brando Corbin met his end in an act of violence in downtown Los Angeles.

In mid-2024, headlines carried the story of Johnny Wactor who, at the time, worked a shift at a rooftop bar. Being a nice kind of guy, the General Hospital alum escorted a co-worker to her car. And that’s when he spotted three people fiddling with his own car.
Confronting The Wrong People
Thinking they might be towing his car away, he literally walked up to talk to them. Unfortunately, they weren’t official car towers, and they were members of the Florencia 13 gang. In fact, they worked away stealing parts off it. Realizing danger, Wactor pushed his co-worker aside and shielded her, taking the impact of a bullet.
Courthouse News reported that Johnny was just 37 years old when he died. Later, the cops got involved, obviously, and Robert Barceleau ended up accused of murder.
The Suspects
The people involved in the death of the General Hospital alum were Robert Barceleau and Sergio Estrada. At the time, aged 18, they faced charges of murder, per The Wrap. But for Barceleau, he faced the possibility of life without parole.
Others on the fringes of the car part thefts didn’t engage in lengthy trials. And those were Leonel Gutierrez and Frank Olano. According to Us Weekly, Gutierrez pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years in state prison for grand theft.
Meanwhile, Olano pleaded no contest and got five years and eight months for being an accessory.
The Court Case & Delays
In 2026, the case of Barceleau and Estrada remains ongoing. You may recall, that when Johnny Wactor died, a former District Attorney, George Gascón said in a statement:
We are committed to seeking justice for Mr. Wactor and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
While the state isn’t seeking the death penalty, they push hard for life without the possibility of parole. Johnny Wactor’s murder case remains ongoing in LA. Both suspects pleaded not guilty and still await trial as legal things go on.
Their legal teams tried to get dismissals in 2025, but Judge Ronald S. Coen refused that. In fact, he felt the case had enough evidence of involvement to move the case on.
So far, GH fans heard that allegedly, investigators obtained some evidence while Barceleau and Estrada sat behind bars and started spilling some details to an undercover agent.
Justice & Law Changes
Apart from collective grief among family and ABC daytime fans, other things became notable. In fact, his death now helps to push things involving lawmakers.
“Justice for Johnny” started trending especially when other people related to the show talked about it. They included Sofia Mattsson and Kirsten Storms.
Apart from that, last month, Congress debated the PART Act. In simple terms, it means that catalytic converters will need VIN numbers stamped onto them, making it harder to sell them. Notably, those were the parts the thieves wanted from Johnny Wactor’s car.
2026 Trial Status
General Hospital fans remain engaged with the sad story of Johnny, and his death hasn’t been forgotten. But why is the case taking time to get into court for a trial?
Well, it turns out that there have been pre-trial hearings. But a stumbling block arrived over a motel photo of the suspects with the alleged murder weapon. The whole question centers around whether it can be shown to the jury.
If you don’t know, the defense tries for suppression of the pic because it apparently shows Barceleau with a handgun and a laser attachment. Why does the prosecution want it shown? Well, it arrived just hours after the killing of Wactor.
Notably, it’s important for the prosecution as the cops never found any bullet shell casings at the scene of the crime. Hopefully, this year, the Johnny Wactor murder trial will start progressing.
