GH’s Cameron Mathison Flip-Fops On Despicable Drew Cain?

General Hospital star Cameron Mathison, who plays the hated role of Drew Cain, opened up about his character a number of times. Not all that long ago, he described Drew as an “absolute douchebag jerk.” But this week, the ABC star seemed to change his tune and he flip-flopped on it. Read on to find out more.
The Flip-Flop
Back in early September, Cameron spoke with Jennie Garth on her I Choose Me podcast. At the time, we reported that he believed Drew Cain is a disgusting character. Mostly, he seemed surprised that the writers turned him into such an awful character. Plus, he felt that his own challenges in life helped him play the role of an angry man.

This week, Parade caught up with him “on the red carpet at the Daytime Emmy Awards.” Notably, he seems to have warmed to the fact that he now plays the role of such a dark character. Clearly, he’s got no problem with playing the role of a douchebag these days.
The outlet cited him as saying, “Frank [Valentini] has gone way above and beyond, and I really actually love what I get to do with this character, because he’s hard to like and I love it.”
Other Things Mentioned
Admittedly, Cameron Mathison spoke about the hateful character of Drew. He said, “You can tell when a character is kind of going down a darker road. And you’re like, ‘I’m not 100% sure this is a good sign.'” Nevertheless, he now feels as if he’s having a good time, noting, “It was fun and I’m willing to dive in.”
Of course, the discussion turned to the longevity of his character on the GH show. Well, it sounds like Drew isn’t going anywhere for now. Cameron told the outlet, “that initial short-term gig turned into a three-year contract, ‘which is turning into more.'”
Recovery From The Shooting
Some GH fans speculated that Mathison might make an exit from the ABC show when his character ended up shot. However, he survived, and it sounds as if there’s much more despicable Drew lying ahead for viewers.
That came after viewers saw that Drew realized that Sidwell killed the judge. Naturally, fans felt that Drew might exit soon after that realization. Additionally, they speculated on how he’s gonna reach the end of his fictional life.
Are you surprised that Cameron Mathison felt uncertain with the writers taking him in such a dark direction just six weeks ago, but now says he loves it? Do you agree that he seemed to do a 180-degree flip-flop on it?
