General Hospital (GH) star Cameron Mathison, who plays Drew Cain on the ABC daytime soap, appeared on Good Morning America during its coverage of the Dancing With the Stars Season 35 cast. For him, the occasion brought back plenty of memories and marked a full-circle moment.
A Reel From GMA
On Saturday, Cameron took to his Instagram account and shared a short reel showing him with some of the DWTS contestants. He set the clip to Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration.”
In his caption, the GH star called it a “full circle moment,” adding that it was “so fun announcing the season 35 cast this weekend for the GMA takeover.”
He ended by writing, “DWTS alarms going off, cast + pros + judges + hosts all in one place. Once a ballroom guy, always a ballroom guy. Buckle up, this season is going to be UNREAL.”
It’s Not His First Waltz
When Mathison described the occasion as a full-circle moment, he was probably referring to his appearance on Season 5 of Dancing With the Stars. Back in 2007, he competed on the show and was paired with professional dancer Edyta Śliwińska.
However, he wasn’t initially keen on being paired with Edyta. People reported in 2024 that Mathison had discussed the 2007 pairing during an appearance on Cheryl Burke’s podcast, Sex, Lies and Spray Tans.
Objecting To Edyta
He recalled calling a casting director and saying, “Listen, I’m so happy that you’ve offered me the show. I can’t wait. I’m in. Just do me a favor. Put me with anybody but Edyta.”
His request wasn’t meant as an insult to Edyta, whom he described as “a very beautiful woman.” At the time, however, he worried about the pairing because he and Vanessa were experiencing problems in their marriage and “Edyta didn’t wear a lot of clothes.”
The Elimination
Reality TV World reported that the All My Children actor survived until the final five before he and Edyta were eliminated on November 13. One of their memorable performances was a Viennese waltz.
The outlet quoted DWTS judge Bruno Tonioli, who said the waltz had a “majestic sweep and gliding quality like a big, gray albatross.”
