GH Kimberly McCullough Gets Real About Anxiety & Self-Care

General Hospital (GH) alum Kimberly McCullough who played the role of Robin Scorpio-Drake, appeared on Maurice Benard’s (Sonny Corinthos) State of Mind again this week. It was a repost but ABC fans were still interested.
Dealing With Depression
Kimberly started talking about mental health well into the interview. She revealed to Maurice that she struggled with anxiety.
While she didn’t experience it as a child, as an adult, the real-life Robin Scorpio-Drake doesn’t feel as much of a passion about mental health as he does. So, she doesn’t necessarily relate to the “mental illness” label, but she can certainly relate to others who struggle.

During her chat, Kimberly recounted how she saw a therapist once who asked her if she wanted “anti-depressants.” Well, it was a nope from her because she felt “terrified of taking drugs.”
Nevertheless, Kimberly McCullough gets through the challenges that she faces with anxiety and feeling down. Not that it’s always easy, but she finds ways to cope.
The Physical Cost Of Stress
Kimberly talked about being a child star and by the age of 12, the pressure and stress of the job ended up with her getting a stomach ulcer. That’s a bit harsh for a young teen, but she learned very young that she needed some sort of help.
Ever since then, she’s been careful to pay attention to her self-care. Stress can lead to more mental health issues, which lead to more stress, and the cycle can be very destructive. So, she shared how she deals with it now.
One way she does that is by saying “no” or just cancelling anything that might cause her to feel anxious. In other words, similar to those stressed by toxic people, who dump them, she stays away from any situation likely to place her in a bad place.
GH Fans React
The State of Mind podcast is so popular that people don’t mind watching a repeat. And for some GH fans, it was the first time they watched the interview between Maurice Benard and Kimberly.
One person wrote in the comments section, “I can see how acting at such a high-level, pulling from personal experiences could be taxing on one’s mind and psyche…”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion area:
