General Hospital’s Maurice Benard Digs Into Archives To Support Steve Burton
The Sonny Corinthos actor shared a touching throwback as his longtime GH co-star headed into the Daytime Emmys.
General Hospital (GH) star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) dug through his photo archives of the ABC show ahead of the daytime Emmys and he was cheering on his co-star Steve Burton, (Jason Morgan).

Fans And Colleagues Reacted
Cameron Mathison (Drew Cain) posted up five red hearts and GH fans also cheered on Steve Burton. One of them said:
Let’s go Steve!!!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 And so happy for Genie. It’s been a lot of loss…. May she take this moment and reflect on her beautiful achievements. I know if Anthony G and Jackie were here, they would be applauding and smiling.
Honoring Leslie Charleson
Per Daytime Confidential, when Steve Burton was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor at the 2026 Daytime Emmy Awards, he said that he intended to honor the late Leslie Charleson (Monica Quartermaine).
Most General Hospital fans know Leslie Charleson for playing Monica Quartermaine for nearly five decades.
Ahead of the Daytime Emmys, Steve Burton spoke with Bradford Anderson and Giovanni Mazza about his submission and explained why he didn’t use Monica’s funeral footage.
Although his performance in the funeral scene was emotional, he left it off his Emmy submission reel because the camerawork relied too heavily “on cutaways” and ensemble shots rather than keeping the focus on him.
Despite the emotional performance, he couldn’t use it effectively for the Emmy submission.
Jason & Monica’s Storyline
Jason was the biological son of Alan Quartermaine and Susan Moore. After Susan was murdered, Monica eventually adopted Jason and raised him as a Quartermaine. Later, after his 1995 car crash, Jason struggled with brain damage and amnesia.
That’s when he took on the surname of Morgan and turned his back on the Quartermaines, becoming a mob enforcer. For years, he and Monica were estranged, but they reconciled slowly.
It was not long before Monica’s death that Jason moved back into the Quartermaine mansion. After she passed away, Jason delivered an emotional tribute to his mother at her memorial.
Fans Award Steve With Love
Steve Burton lost the Lead Actor Daytime Emmy to Scott Clifton, but Maurice Benard stood by him as promised, and Genie Francis was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Although Steve didn’t win on October 30, many fans in the post by Maurice honored him and his incredible career with the ABC show. One of them wrote:
I’ve Learned Soooo Much About Love Friendship Loyalty And A Family Bond Made From Trust Not Blood. And It’s So Heart ♥️ Warming & Beautiful it. Makes You Stop and Think About the People in Your Life And What They Mean to You.
