General Hospital (GH) fans likely remember Lindsey Pearlman for her guest role as Margaret McMorris, the barista on the ABC Daytime show. However, she later came to a tragic end and many fans and true crime enthusiasts saw lots of headlines about it. Read on for more details about what happened.
Lindsey Disappeared
Lindsey Pearlman wasn’t only on GH, and she had a history with shows like Chicago Justice and American Housewife. So, when headlines revealed she disappeared in February 2022, plenty of people felt very concerned about her.
Reports arrived that apparently, she went missing from her home in Los Angeles. Desperately worried, her husband, Vance Smith, posted on social media asking for help to find her. Well, General Hospital fans reacted by reposting her photo.
Additionally, the LAPD requested help with the missing person case. Apparently, she’d last been seen in the Thai Town neighborhood.
A Sad Outcome
After about a week of wondering what was going on, the family and soap fans heard the worst news. In the Runyon Canyon Park area, some workers discovered a car near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and North Sierra Bonita Avenue.
Unfortunately, inside was a dead body later identified as the actress who portrayed Margaret McMorris. At the time, news headlines carried stories about Jeffrey Epstein’s associate who died in jail, Jean-Luc Brunel, the Caldor Wildfire, and Elon Musk’s Twitter. But the headlines found room for Pearlman as well.
The discovery of her body came via many outlets, including ABC 10 on YouTube. You can see that further down in this article. Well, it was brief and at least one GH fan complained because she hadn’t been a regular on the show.
They opined, “She was on two episodes of General Hospital back in 2020. Not really a [GH] actress.”
Well, they might have had a point, but that didn’t stop others from following the case as it developed.
The Outcome
Naturally, many people chatted online about whether Lindsey Pearlman was the victim of a crime. As time went by, more chatter kept the conversation going, but eventually the speculation ended.
After a few months, Deadline reported that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled the death as a suicide. That’s because the cause of death suggested she ingested some sodium nitrite.
Apparently, other substances were also found, although not likely at toxic levels on their own to kill her. Of course, that immediately switched the conversation away from true crime to the subject of mental health struggles in the entertainment industry.
On Mental Health
On GH, Lindsey Pearlman didn’t play a huge role, but many fans still talk about her. While it didn’t end up with a trial like the murder of Johnny Wactor, she does represent the need for people in high-pressure soap productions to reach out for help.
And, kudos to Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) for helping to push that awareness.
