General Hospital spoilers reveal fans are disappointed on all sides this week with Britt Westbourne’s (Kelly Thiebaud) death as Thiebaud exited the show in trade for a reprisal of her role as Eva Vasquez on Station 19. Everyone knew Britt was on her way out, but we wanted her to do it with a bit more of a bang. Instead, we got a river of tears and a very broken Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati), who held her daughter in the earliest hours of the New Year as she crossed over in pain.
GH ratings have been sinking, and many fans feel writers are missing opportunity after opportunity to reinvigorate the soap and get fresh eyes on the screen. They’ve done this once again with Britt’s storyline as they let her go out on her own terms, but missed the chance to grasp one of the nation’s top trending hot topics in the midst of Britt’s demise.
General Hospital Spoilers — Assisted Suicide Would’ve Drawn More Attention
Assisted suicide is a hot topic across the globe right now, and particularly in the United States as legislators, lobbyists, and Americans alike battle for and against the right to take one’s own life, as well as the right of someone else to assist them in doing it. State laws vary on the issue, and much of the nation still believes it is wrong to legalize killing someone else, even if they ask for it.
GH Spoilers Tease Britt Missed the Boat, and So Did GH Writers
Using Britt’s Huntington’s Disease diagnosis as the foundation for a disagreement between Britt, her family, and her friends could have highlighting the differing perspectives well and drawn new eyes, much the way Luke Spencer’s (Anthony Geary) and Laura Collins’ (Genie Francis) rape storyline, and Stone Cates’ (Michael Sutton) AIDS storyline had. So much for boosting ratings. As General Hospital continues to shuffle along with lower ratings than most soap competitors, it doesn’t forecast good things as the show approaches its 60th anniversary this Spring.
General Hospital Spoilers — Could Britt Ever Come Back?
Many fans were hopeful that Britt would take off for an adventure traveling across the globe before she started to feel the effects of Huntington’s really sink in. Others were wishing she would be scooped up by the likes of Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaugnessy) and held captive when she discovered he had been poisoning her all along and faked her diagnosis — leaving room for her to return someday. We never say never when it comes to Port Charles, given all the people that have come back to life more than once, but fans are grieving Britt’s loss because this one does truly feel final. Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers just ahead.
