General Hospital spoilers reveal Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) hasn’t been coping very well with the guilt she’s harboring, as has been for some time. When Elizabeth got wrapped up in Nikolas Cassadine’s (Adam Huss) scheme to hold Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) hostage, she wasn’t thinking clearly.
It’s not something she would have done had she not been so low on self-worth and kicking herself when she was down. In some ways, Elizabeth might have been ready to throw in the towel, and she may have behaved so recklessly on purpose just hoping she would get caught. But why?
General Hospital Spoilers — Elizabeth’s Anxiety Gets the Best of Her
Elizabeth confessed her role in keeping Esme against her will to the PCPD and secured an immunity deal for herself in the process. So why doesn’t she feel any better? When Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Molly Lansing Davis (Haley Pullos) were headed out of the interrogation room, Elizabeth was left feeling like that wasn’t enough. She needed to come out of this with less, somehow — feeling she paid a penalty.
Perhaps the lack of guilt she has over turning Nikolas in is a real sign as to just how far she’s come with that friendship and how willing she is to let it go after all these years. Why can’t she shake this anxiety that telling the truth is not enough to redeem herself?
GH Spoilers Hint Peter August Didn’t Help
The truth certainly didn’t help Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) feel any better when she realized Elizabeth was in a position to steer the cops away from Esme and toward the real Hook killer — Heather Webber (Alley Mills), but she didn’t. Britt Westbourne’s (Kelly Thiebaud) life probably could not have been saved, as Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) put it, but Liesl won’t let go of the anger she needs to take out on someone. For now, that someone is going to be Elizabeth, and she’s going to come to realize Liesl is justified in having those feelings, because she feels it, too.
Still, Elizabeth’s anxiety about her own character, why she does the things she does, and how she finds her way out of them has been on her mind for months. It wasn’t long ago that she was keeping a similar secret with Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) about Peter August (Wes Ramsey), and it nearly tore her apart despite knowing the world was better off without a man like Peter.
General Hospital Spoilers — Reiko Finn’s Blood is on Elizabeth’s Hands
The truth is, Elizabeth is still struggling to make peace with knowing she had a hand in Reiko Finn’s (Mele Ihara) death. Having Finn let her off the hook so easily didn’t help Elizabeth process what she had done. Her parents tried to exempt her from accountability, but her own mind eventually won that battle.
Then, Finn tried to sweep it under the rug and failed to see any responsibility on her end. This left Elizabeth feeling like she was given too many passes and hadn’t paid a price for her actions — something she just can’t live with, even if everyone else can. Now, the same scenario appears to be playing out with her immunity deal, and Elizabeth just might decide to forsake it if it means bettering her own conscience and mental health. Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers just ahead to see how this pans out.
