General Hospital (GH) spoilers, news, and updates tease that Emma Samms has opened up about her struggles with the long COVID. The actress talked about it during an interview in State of Mind, hosted by co-star Maurice Benard.
Samms recently reprised her role as Holly Sutton on the daytime drama and was a recent guest in Benard’s YouTube series. It was an honor for the actor to speak to a General Hospital legend. They discussed a lot of things, including how she dealt with the pandemic.
“I watched her on ‘General Hospital’ before I even decided to become an actor. We discussed mental health, Covid, Long Covid, marriage, Tony Geary, ‘General Hospital,’ ‘Dynasty,’ and many other things. She’s a class act,” the actor said.
“Such respect for the lovely. Maurice Benard and his #StateofMind podcast. Shining a much-needed light on mental health in such a comfortable and accessible way. Bravo,” Samms shared on Twitter.
General Hospital Spoilers – Samms Post-COVID Struggles
Samms struggles with long COVID or post-COVID, which the CDC described as a range of new, returning, or ongoing health issues that COVID patients go through after getting the virus.
The actress was infected with the virus back in March 2020. During that time, the US government shut down most activities and eventually imposed a nationwide lockdown. Now, she has some limitations that she needs to deal with while at work. Fortunately, GH producers and directors were gracious and considerate enough to accommodate her, despite her condition.
In a separate interview with People magazine, the actress revealed that she could no longer stand for long periods without the risk of falling over. Not only that, she may also lose her voice if she talks too much.
General Hospital Updates – Battle Of The Wills
“I sometimes sound ‘gaspy.’ I said, ‘Basically, think senior citizen and not a fit one. Just think in those terms when you are writing for me,” she explained.
The actress admitted that she’s always in a constant battle against fatigue, blood pressure changes, tinnitus, and breathlessness. She described it as “a battle of the wills to accomplish anything.”
Samms debuted on General Hospital as Holly Sutton in the 1980s before she appeared on Dynasty and The Colbys. She returned to film scenes on the soap in September, and the episodes where she appeared began to air on October 20.
She’s extremely grateful that her bosses were sympathetic to her condition. GH executive producer Frank Valentini even gave her a parking spot that’s close to the studio, so she doesn’t have to walk that far.
