General Hospital Cameron Mathison Admits Drew’s A ‘Douchebag’

Cameron Mathison, who plays the role of Drew Cain, a hated character on General Hospital, admitted this week the writers turned his character into an “absolute douchebag jerk.” Read on to find out what else the ABC daytime drama star had to say during a recent podcast.
The Podcast Admission
On September 9, the real-life Drew Cain appeared on Jennie Garth’s podcast, I Choose Me. They started off the conversation by talking about the Doberman named Hunter that he temporarily fostered. Recently, he shared that the pup found a forever home in a nice environment.

After that, he related again how once someone threw an apple at him in a supermarket. Drew Cain, Cameron Mathison admitted, is a terrible person.
However, he wasn’t initially anticipating that the writers would go in that direction. And, it seems that he’s not any fonder of his character than GH fans are.
Drew’s A Douchebag?
Plenty of daytime drama fans can agree that Drew Cain behaves like a douchebag. However, it seemed a bit surprising to hear it directly from Cameron Mathison. It came after Jennie asked him, “Did they cast you for playing a bad guy?”
Well, that wasn’t meant to be the original plan, judging by what Cameron said about it. He said that he wasn’t initially cast as a bad guy. And, he reminded his followers that originally on GH he was something of a hero. Remember, the former Navy Seal who believed he was Jason Morgan was a heroic figure.
He said, “Drew Cain, who was an ex-Navy seal, hero, saved the day, best guy, all these things…” However, the script took a different direction. He recalled how it started with a “little storyline” with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros).
The Bad Guy Gets Worse
He ranted about it for a while, saying:
Drew and Nina don’t get along and we hate each other, and we were…actually having kind of hate sex. She ripped my shirt off one day, and so then we hated each other after that. It was very, very bizarre… I just kind of laid into her for whatever, you know, like verbally, and…she laid into me too. It was just very dynamic, angry scenes.
Perhaps, Cameron mused, the producers thought his acting was good in those toxic scenes. However, it’s not nice for the actor or for viewers watch. ABC listeners heard the GH star say, “I don’t know what happened… all of a sudden they started writing me more and more…down that line, and now it’s full-on, absolute douchebag jerk, like a corrupt congressman.”
Even Cameron wondered about the depths that Drew sinks to. He questioned what sort of human would “use an eleven-year-old to manipulate.”
