General Hospital (GH) star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) recently left fans with questions after sharing an emotional post honoring a late friend.

A Mysterious Post

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Benard posted a clip from what seems to be an unreleased episode of his mental health podcast, State of Mind, leaving fans touched and eager to learn the identity of the mystery woman in the video.

Maurice Benard started his podcast as a platform for open dialogue surrounding mental illness, trauma, and personal healing.

In his social media update, he made it clear that the clip he shared holds a very unique, albeit tragic, place in the podcast’s history.

What Maurice Said

“This is the @mbstateofmind that will never be shown. I can’t really say why,” Benard wrote in the caption. He added, “#My friend here is no longer with us. We had a great connection and I cared for her deeply. Her story was absolutely beautiful and would’ve helped a lot of people. It’s STATE OF MIND at its best.”

The mysterious nature of the post immediately caught the attention of GH fans.

Growing Speculation

In the comments section, many people sent in sympathetic comments to the General Hospital star. One fan wrote, “I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend. My condolences to you & her loved ones.”

But others questioned who the woman in the video was.

They also saw that Maurice had cried in the clip. The dialogue from that involved them talking about her checking in with him “every six months.” The tears came when he worried that she might not check in with him one day.

As he didn’t name his guest, Maurice Benard left some fans guessing. But could the mystery friend be former model and actress Kyle Aletter?

Replying to questions, one follower said, “Kyle Aletter, who passed away a few years ago and sadly lived a lot shorter than may have been expected.”

The Case for Kyle Aletter

The theory surrounding Kyle Aletter, also known as Kyle Aletter-Oldham, is built on strong circumstantial ties. The daughter of Miss America and All My Children star Lee Meriwether and actor Frank Aletter, Kyle passed away on July 31, 2024, at age 64.

Aletter previously appeared on Benard’s State of Mind podcast in December 2022. Maurice Benard interviewed her about growing up with a famous mother, her stint as a substitute model on The Price Is Right, and her remarkable resilience.

Maurice Planned More Interviews

Soap Hub reported that in February of 2024, Benard chatted with his GH co-star, Vernee Watson. During that interview, he mentioned, “[Kyle’s] mother has Alzheimer’s,” and he said that Kyle also got the same diagnosis.

He added, “We decided that she was gonna come in so the audience could see with their eyes what Alzheimer’s does to someone. So I’ll have her come in every six months…”

Aletter passed away later that summer. Naturally, that makes fans wonder if the newly shown footage belongs to one of those unreleased follow-up recordings.

An Unresolved Mystery

Maurice Benard has not officially confirmed whether the guest in his clip was Kyle Aletter, but when he said, “will never be shown,” that left room for more questions.

Until he names his late companion, the video stands as a sweet tribute to someone he seemed to love.

General Hospital fans and podcast listeners always appreciate Maurice and his guests because he so often honors those folks who touched the lives of so many people.

Vulnerable and Authentic

Even without a confirmed identity, many people love that the real-life Sonny Corinthos so often becomes vulnerable. In fact, he once said that if he can cry on camera, then it might encourage other men to talk about mental health issues.

Followers noted that no matter who the footage involves, Maurice Benard’s willingness to keep their memory alive adds authenticity to State of Mind.
