Kristen Alderson Opens Up About General Hospital Exit

General Hospital spoilers, news, and updates tease that Kristen Alderson opened up about leaving the sudser. The actress who plays the role of Starr Manning and Kiki Jerome talked about her exit in an episode of State of Mind released on Sunday, April 16.

In an interview with Maurice Benard, Alderson talked about her acting career, the mistake she made while delivering her Emmy speech, and the reason for leaving General Hospital. The actress revealed that she dropped everything to be with her brother, including her role in the soap opera. Back in 2016, her brother Eddie, who played the role of Matthew Buchanan on One Life To Live, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

“It has always just been him and I. He’s my only sibling, and he’s three years younger than me. We just never fought growing up. The second they brought him home from the hospital, and I held him in my arms, I said, ‘He’s my baby,” she shared.

“I didn’t want anyone else to hold him. I didn’t want anyone else to change his diapers. I was just obsessed with him. It has always been like that. I have been very protective of him,” she added.

Alderson Shares Brother’s Cancer Battle

Alderson shared a close relationship with her brother, making it unsurprising that her world was turned upside down when she learned that he had cancer. They didn’t know what to do when the doctors showed them the huge mass in her brother’s chest. During that time, they didn’t know what kind of cancer it was and Eddie had to be admitted right away to get tested.

After one week, they learned that it was Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, stage 4. Her brother went through six months of chemotherapy. Each session lasted for three hours and it happened every two weeks. Her brother didn’t lose his hair and felt great during the treatment. However, it didn’t work.

Despite that, her brother remained optimistic and their entire family rallied around him. They realized that wallowing in grief won’t help and crying won’t make the problem go away. He had several failed therapies but it was Keytrudo that saved him. The drug for lung cancer was the doctor’s last-ditch effort to save Eddie’s life and it worked. He’s been cancer free for five years now.
