General Hospital (GH) star Maurice Benard, who plays Sonny Corinthos on the ABC daytime soap, goes all out to spread the word about the importance of being candid about mental health. This week, he shared news about an upcoming campaign. Read on to find out more.

The Campaign

Maurice Benard once promised that he would take his State of Mind mental health message to the streets, but he also supports other organizations that help people who are struggling.

Its objective is to encourage people to: “Promise to reach out to friends, family, 988, or another resource if depressed or in danger of self-harm.”

Maurice reminded his GH followers that he has been part of the campaign before. In Wednesday’s Instagram caption, he wrote, “Last year I spoke at @promise2liveofficial, an incredible movement.”

He also said that he is pleased the campaign has a global reach, writing, “The amount of people that they reach globally is staggering. The more people you reach, the more lives you save.”

Next, he confirmed that he would be there to give another speech this year and promised to do it “every year if they would have me.”

It hardly needed saying, but the General Hospital star also added a note that read, “I really believe in what they are doing.”

More Details

The poster he shared noted that this year’s event focuses on “1 Million Hugs for Hope.” Maurice will be at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood, California, on September 10. The event is expected to run from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

On the Promise2Live website, the event details explain that the September 10 gathering coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day.

The General Hospital star will be joined by “celebrities, musicians, advocates, and changemakers,” who will come together to focus on “helping people choose hope and make the promise to live.”

The event brings together a unique blend of entertainment and mental health advocacy.
