General Hospital’s James Patrick Stuart Talks Valentin’s Exit & A Possible Return
General Hospital (GH) spoilers note that Valentin Cassadine and his portrayer, James Patrick Stuart, wrapped up their nine-year run on the soap this past week.
The character entered storylines in July 2016, and during the Monday, March 24 episode, was sent to a maximum-security prison in Geneva, known as Steinmauer.
Before exiting, Valentin had heartfelt goodbyes with ex-flame, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), and his daughter, Charlotte Cassadine (Scarlett Fernandez).
James Patrick Stuart recently spoke with Soap Opera Digest (SOD) about Valentin’s exit, and if he’d ever return to the land of Port Charles again.
Valentin’s Exit Wasn’t A Big Deal To James Patrick Stuart
Stuart told SOD that Valentin going to jail was, “no skin off” his teeth. He reminded the online mag that he was off contract for a while, and as he no longer lives in Los Angeles – now living in Portland, Oregon.
In fact, being off canvas before his exit allowed him and his wife a chance to move into their new house, settle into the area, and remodel their home as well.
In fact, during the filming of his final General Hospital scenes, he stayed with fellow General Hospital colleague, Michael E. Knight (Martin Grey).
Would James Patrick Stuart Return?
In the land of soaps, anything is possible, right? While Valentin has been sentenced to life at Steinmauer, this doesn’t mean he can’t escape or simply be released on good behavior at some point, right? But would JPS ever return?
Stuart told SOD that he’d return if ever invited back, and noted, “Yeah! I love Frank [Valentini, executive producer]. I’m amazed by him.” He goes on to say, “To be in his presence is an honor, and to be working on his show is an honor.
The cast and crew really admire him, and that’s palpable — and I like to be a part of that.”
Stuart also revealed how much he loved working with Finola Hughes – and how much he’d love to work with her again, someday.
In terms of the fans, who are sad to see Valentin and Stuart go, the actor thanked all of them for “… bolstering my ambition for worldwide approval!” In addition, he added, “I will miss the show as much as they will miss the character.”

I would love to see James Patrick Stuart return as Valentin. I liked him with both Anna and Nina. GH needs more Cassadines. They have been the ultimate villians for decades. JPS is a brilliant and talented actor that always delivers compelling performances.
