General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) is free from his Days of our Lives contract as Harris Michaels. This is the role in which he made his daytime debut, and the second time around he signed a one-year contract that is now over.
As soon as Burton’s news dropped by way of The Daily Drama on Days of Our Lives the rumor mill lit up—is he headed back to his iconic role as Jason Morgan on the ABC soap?
General Hospital spoilers: Steve Burton Returning as Jason Morgan?
Burton and Ingo Rademacher (Jasper Jax) left the soap rather than get the COVID vaccine, as mandated by ABC. Rademacher went with some venom, while Burton played it cool and didn’t burn his bridges. Jason Morgan is one of the most identifiable and beloved daytime characters, and the fans have not stopped talking about his return.
Hey, it happened before! Years ago Burton left GH only to resurface at CBS’s The Young and the Restless as Dylan MacAvoy, before he returned to GH.
The vaccine mandate no longer exists so theoretically there is no reason why Jason can’t return to the show—if Burton and ABC want that to happen.

Jason is believed to be dead after a scene in 2021 that indicated he perished in a catastrophic cave-in. Soap fans know that character have at least nine lives, which means anything is possible—did we mention that Jason has come back from the dead before?!
No body was recovered, but even if his organs had been harvested, there is a legit soap reason that would make his comeback 100 percent real.
Maybe Jason is being held hostage, found a benevolent benefactor, or has amnesia—take your pick, anything will work for loyal soap fans as long as it means Stone Cold is back in action as Sonny Corinthos’s right hand man.
Let’s be honest, Brick (Stephen A. Smith) and Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) are capable sidekicks, but there is only one Jason Morgan—and betrayed Sonny needs him now more than ever.
