General Hospital Spoilers: Special Luke Spencer Tribute Episode – Honoring Anthony Geary
General Hospital (GH) spoilers for the week of December 29-January 2 hint that the ABC soap just dropped its preview video, and the promo centered on a tribute episode for the late and great Anthony Geary, who played Luke Spencer. Find out more about this below.
Honoring Luke Spencer & Anthony Geary
General Hospital’s weekly promo opens with Luke at the docks in Port Charles. A voiceover is then heard inviting viewers to join the soap for a special encore presentation to celebrate the “unforgettable legacy” of Tony Geary and Luke Spencer.
The preview ends with Luke gazing in the distance, as he emotionally states, “Goodbye, Port Charles.” The clips were taken from Geary’s last episode on the show.
The tribute episode is a repeat from July 2015, which was Geary’s final GH show before he retired from acting.
While Luke did make a brief appearance during a May 2017 episode when Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) met up with Luke in Europe to head to Amsterdam together after she left the little town, the July 2015 show was really Luke’s last “hurrah” on the ABC daytime drama.
GH will air this episode during its regular ABC timeslot this Thursday, January 1.
Anthony Geary’s Legacy On GH
Geary died at the age of 78 this past Sunday, December 14, and fans, peers, colleagues, and family continue to mourn this incredible loss. He entered the land of Port Charles in 1978, playing the very complicated Luke Spencer and quickly became a fan favorite.
Luke, along with Laura Collins (Genie Francis) defined the term “super couple” in the soap opera genre, and their November 16-17, 1981, continues to hold the record for the highest-rated hour in U.S. daytime drama history with 30 million fans tuning in.
During his tenure as Luke Spencer, Geary won a record eight Daytime Emmys in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
