General Hospital Spoilers: Sonny Quits the Mob for Good? Hospital Board Offer Changes Everything

General Hospital spoilers and updates pose an interesting question-is Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) leaving the mob life behind? You have to admit, Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) has a good point not wanting the mobster on the GH hospital board!
Sonny Has Always Been A Big Contributor To The Hospital
Sonny has always been a big contributor to the hospital, but unfortunately, he seems to be better known for his mob business activities than for his legitimate businesses.
He owns Corinthos Coffee, Poluzzo’s Italian Restaurant and Volonino’s Gym there in Port Charles; the hospital even serves his coffee! But, the mob business certainly doesn’t have the presence in Port Charles it once did-out of what used to be the Five Families, there’s really not even one!
Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) was a new kind of enemy, although an enemy nonetheless, but Sonny’s fight with him over his piers were for “business” purposes, not for territory. Perhaps he’ll be able to get his piers back with Sidwell in jail, but it’s doubtful he’ll use them for anything besides legitimate coffee shipments.
The Last True Mob Presence In Port Charles Was Cyrus Renault
The last true mob presence in Port Charles was Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) and he’s dead-there was Selina Wu (Lydia Look) and the Wu family, but Sidwell drove them out of town. Besides, Selina has always banded with Sonny anyway, they combined forces against Renault when he was still alive and in town.
Of course, there’s always the chance that a mob family from another part of the country could try to take Sonny’s territory-but Sidwell already did that! As for now, Sonny really doesn’t have any rivals mob-wise, except of course he needs to see Sidwell’s punishment through to the point where he’s no longer a threat.
And he’ll do everything he can to make sure Sidwell never sees the light of day again!
Leaving The Mob Would Be Dangerous-If He Still Had Mob Competition!
No doubt, leaving the mob would be dangerous for Sonny, and for Sonny’s family-if he still had mob competition, and the way it is now, he doesn’t.
This is the perfect time for Sonny to make his name as a legitimate businessman in Port Charles, although he does still have his Puerto Rican casinos. But they don’t affect anything on the mainland, and nothing in Port Charles.
It’s true that Sonny wants to make a splash, so it were, with funding projects near and dear to his heart where General Hospital is concerned. And now, as a hospital board member, he’ll have some say in what happens connected to GH.
