General Hospital spoilers indicate that Chad Duell’s decision to leave the role of Michael Corinthos came as quite a shock to the show’s loyal fanbase.
Shortly after Duell made the announcement, Executive Producer Frank Valentini confirmed the news with a short statement of his own on X (formerly Twitter). Perhaps the most interesting part is the decision has been made not to recast Michael “at this time”.

But Valentini also stated that “you never know in daytime”. That means the door is at least still partially open for Michael to return at a later, possible with a recast actor if not Duell himself.
Given all of that, it seems like Michael will be gone from Port Charles one way or another for a significant amount of time before possibly returning at a later date. How Michael will be written is anyone’s guess at the moment, but it could potentially happen any number of ways.

While many fans hold out hope that Duell will eventually return, others have suggested alternate options. Perhaps Michael can be recast with Robert Adamson (ex-Noah Newman on the Young and the Restless) since Adamson has filled in for Duell as Michael several times already.
Another possibility would be to bring back Drew Garrett, the previous actor who played Michael from 2009 – 2010. The role could also be eventually filled with a brand-new actor. But it seems that Michael will be gone for a significant amount of time before any type of return is eventually discussed.

As mentioned above, the exact manner Michael will exit General Hospital hasn’t been revealed just yet. Michael and Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) still have the issue of their infidelity to deal with.
Michael could easily decide to dump his wife and take off for parts unknown with their children in tow, There is also the possibility that Michael will be headed for prison for helping to cover up the murder of FBI Agent John Cates (Adam Harrington).
Any of those reasons could keep Michael away for months or even years. So, if Michael is indeed recast down the road, it mostly likely won’t be anytime soon.
