A Now Deleted Social Media Post Told The Tale
Change is often cited as the only constant in life, and it seems that the ABC soap is on the verge of a significant transformation. Recently, a now-deleted social media post by Robert Adamson, who has stepped in for Chad Duell as Michael Corinthos, hinted that a permanent replacement is being sought. Adamson reportedly expressed his frustration at being omitted from the auditioning process.
Speculation is swirling that Rory Gibson, who took over the role Adamson previously held on The Young and the Restless, has indeed auditioned—it’s no surprise that Adamson was upset! Here’s what viewers can look forward to as the show and its audience brace for a new portrayal of Michael.
Replacing Chad Duell’s Michael Is A Difficult Proposition
It’s quite ironic that on this very day — the 15th anniversary of Duell’s debut as Michael — a search is underway for a new actor to fill the role of the Emmy-winning character. The person who ultimately gets the part is likely to face significant challenges.
Viewers often struggle to embrace a new face in a well-known role, and the situation can be just as difficult behind the scenes.
Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) has openly shared his experiences of giving Duell a hard time when he replaced Drew Garrett. Additionally, the late Leslie Charleson mentioned that she didn’t receive a particularly warm reception when Patsy Rahn was let go from her role as Monica.
Chad’s Replacement Will Inherit A Juicy Storyline
The new storyline for Michael is certainly packed with substantial content; and whoever replaces Chad will have no shortage of airtime-Chad hardly had any time off those fifteen years.
After being sent away to heal from his injuries, his estranged wife, Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen), has appointed her lover, Michael’s Uncle Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison), as the guardian of their children.
This was after cheating with him even before Michael was seriously injured in an explosion at Sonny’s penthouse, and it all came out in a public and ugly way.
Meanwhile, Sasha Corbin (Sofia Mattsson), who is expecting Michael’s baby, has been growing increasingly close to Jason, who is stepping in as the father figure to keep the Quartermaines from becoming overly possessive.
That pregnancy happened as a drunken one night stand, in response to finding out about Willow’s cheating, on Michael’s part, and on Sasha’s part, finding out her boyfriend was her first cousin!
Duell Has Been Doing Well, Reportedly Not Wanting To Return
Although not confirmed, there are rumors that Chad didn’t want to return, in spite of Frank Valentini originally stating publicly the door was open for his return.
Perhaps the poor guy was simply burned out-but Chad has been doing well on his time away from GH.
He has embarked on a personal journey, exploring both physical and emotional growth-after departing from Port Charles, he has lost 20 pounds and feels his mindset is improving significantly.
Meanwhile, there is an abundance of skilled actors in his age group who could step into the role of Michael, including Drew Garrett, who previously held the part. Coincidentally, or perhaps not so coincidentally, Drew was the latest guest on Maurice’s podcast, “State of Mind.”

There are several actors who can conceivably play Michael but Drew Garrett isn't one of them. He's to baby-faced and he's way to thin, He was ok when Michael was a kid but will never pull it off as an adult. Just as Robert Adamson was ok as a quick fill-in but could not be convincing for the long haul... This is an important role to fill, some thought needs to be given to it or we'll be looking at another Lucas recast fiasco..
