Agent Harker is played by Matt Merchant, and he talks about how he scored the role, which he is very grateful for!
Agent Harker Is A Recurring Character
Agent Harker is a recurring character, meaning he “comes when called” and when the story needs his presence.
After his debut, Merchant turned to Instagram to express his deep appreciation for joining the iconic ABC soap. He began with a playful note: “WARNING! LENGTHY ACTOR GRATITUDE POST!!!”
He then took the moment to unveil his new character to fans.
“Well! The secret’s out. I intended to share this tomorrow, but my first episode has already aired!! Please welcome Agent Harker, a fresh addition to the WSB.” Merchant continued to elaborate on how this exciting opportunity arose.
He Got A Call From Casting Director Mark Teschner
The actor revealed that he received a call in early April from the renowned casting director Mark Teschner.
“Mark Teschner is a deity among casting directors and reached out to see if I’d be interested in portraying a formidable character with substantial dialogue.”
For Merchant, that description was instantly appealing; he noted that most of his past television roles had been quite minor.
“I’ve never encountered the term ‘heavy dialogue’ in an inquiry before.
It’s always been under fives, brief appearances on screen. If you blink, you might miss me moments.” Nevertheless, he regarded each role as a valuable opportunity for growth.
Matt Didn’t Even Have To Audition For The Role!
Merchant mentioned that after he submitted his reel, he anticipated receiving an audition notice.
However, days passed without any communication, leading him to believe it was time to move on.
Then, out of the blue, he received a message asking, “How tall are you?”; he replied, “I’m 6’3″.”
The response was simply, “That’s the right answer,” and just like that, he landed the job; “BOOM! BOOKED!! no audition needed!”
“Just a portfolio that opened the door and an Emmy Award-winning casting director from a long-standing franchise placing his faith in me.”
Merchant Filmed His First Scenes April 27
Merchant disclosed that he filmed his initial scenes on April 27, just a day prior to his mother’s birthday. The actor emphasized how much this opportunity means to him.
He described the role as the most important work he has ever done on network television and expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to making it a reality. He also acknowledged Tim Davison for helping to pave the way.
“This one I will cherish. It’s the most I’ve had the chance to do on network television and today marked the first day!!!”
There Will Be More To Come From Agent Harker
The exciting news for fans is that Merchant hinted at more to come from Agent Harker; “There’s gonna be more, so if you’re into that kind of thing, keep an eye out.”
While Agent Harker may be a newcomer to Port Charles, Merchant is quite familiar with daytime television, and even with General Hospital.
He portrayed one of Helena’s henchmen back in 2013, and his experience also includes roles on both The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives.
