General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Leo Falconeri’s (Easton Rocket Sweda) autism case seems awfully important to Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth); could General Hospital viewers find out he is on the spectrum too?
General Hospital Spoilers – Austin Gatlin-Holt Was Uncomfortable When Britt Westbourne Asked Him The Question
General Hospital viewers will recall in a recent General Hospital episode that Britt Westbourne (Kelly Theibaud) asked Austin why Leo’s case was so important to him; he skillfully evaded the issue by talking about his family being private people. Finally, Britt got him to say something – he claimed that his brother was autistic, but he was doing an awful lot of squirming and avoiding eye contact; most of the time that kind of behavior notates dishonesty!
Austin is normally a very honest person, but there may be a reason that he’s hiding his own autism and claiming his brother has it – an autism diagnosis, even a high functioning type of autism could interfere with his career! Even high functioning people on the autism spectrum or those who have the Asperger’s version have problems with social skills; and to many people that can be off-putting and could definitely affect Austin’s bedside manner!
GH Spoilers – Jonah Gatlin Would Be Ten To Twelve Years Older Than Austin Gatlin-Holt
Longtime General Hospital viewers will remember Jonah Gatlin (Scott Curtis) helping his and Austin’s mother out, Charity Gatlin (Gloria Carlin) out in her country store – he was only eight at that time. Jonah and Charity were on air for around six months while Jimmy Lee Holt (Steve Bond) was General Hospital for three years, and Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon) met Charity and Jonah.
It would seem minding a store and waiting on customers would be a little difficult with an autistic child who would likely be distracted with everything in the store; look how Leo, about the same age runs off! Besides, Jonah would be ten to twelve years old than Austin at the least – by the time Austin would have been old enough to remember Jonah’s autism and recognized symptoms in Leo, Jonah would have been at least a teenager if not a young adult!
General Hospital Spoilers – Austin Gatlin-Holt Displays Some Personality Features Of Autistic People
General Hospital viewers familiar with the autism spectrum will have noticed that Austin displays some personality features of autistic people; for one thing, he seems to have problems making friends. General Hospital viewers will remember when Austin first came on, he said he liked the woods because he liked animals more than most people; that could have been a joke but it could also be a symptom of autism.
Viewers will remember Leo’s fascination with animals and in particular with sea life, as evidenced when he ran off from the Jerome Gallery and was found looking into the ocean off the pier, trying to see octopi! When Jonah was a child, Austin wouldn’t have known him, being much younger– and besides, fidget spinners have only been produced in the last ten years and not much would have been known about autism when Jonah was little! When Austin was eight to ten years old more was known about autism – even though it was first decribed in 1944, it was first officially identified as a spectrum disorder in 1994 and revised in 2000 when Asperger’s Syndrome was also added.
