General Hospital: Historical Sacrifices By Jason Morgan
General Hospital (GH), the ABC daytime drama, knocked fans’ socks right off in recent scenes involving Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) taking the fall for young Rocco shooting Cullum. While it really shocked a lot of fans, it might give others a few flashback moments of Jason in earlier years. Read on for more details.
Jason’s Sacrifices – Real & Fiction
Fans who watch the GH daytime drama know that it’s not the first time that Morgan claimed something untrue to protect kids. When it comes to the people he loves, he’s not scared to make any sacrifices.
Oh, and fans can draw a parallel with the real-life Steve Burton taking his hiatus now to work on the wellbeing of his real-life family. That aside, you might recall that Jason claimed he was a biological dad, even though he wasn’t. That involved Michael Corinthos.
Protecting Carly
At the time, the storyline seemed memorable because Carly persuaded Jason to claim paternity mid-pregnancy to keep A.J. Quartermaine at bay. Back in 1997, after a one-night stand with A.J., she lied to her fiancé Tony Jones by naming Jason as the dad.
Next, she told Jason about being Bobbie Spencer’s daughter, and begged him to play along. Jason agreed, per Soap Central, thereby protecting both of them. In fact, he went all in, signing the birth certificate, funding custody fights, and even consenting to Michael’s emergency heart surgery. Now, decades later, he’s acting unselfishly for another kid.
Protecting Dante’s Son
While Rocco isn’t Jason’s son, he is the child of Dante Dante Falconeri and Lulu, and Jason’s bond with Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins) goes back years. By taking the rap, he’s saving her from the heartbreak of seeing her son in juvie.

It’s a classic move, actually. In October 2012, Cesar Faison shot Jason Morgan and dumped him in the harbor. Presumed dead, Jason was secretly fished out and held captive in a Russian clinic for five years as “Patient 6.”
A Recurring Hero
Next up, Cesar Faison kidnapped Jason’s unknown twin brother, Drew. Remember, he planted Jason’s memories into him, and sent him to Port Charles as a sleeper agent. Later, Jason returned to the show in December 2017.
In fact, it seems that Steve Burton’s character is something of a recurring hero. Remember, in late 2021, Jason Morgan was caught in a tunnel collapse during a firefight with Peter August on Cassadine Island.
After he ended up buried in rubble and search teams came up empty, Port Charles assumed his death. After mourning all of that, he was declared gone forever.
Taking A Hit Again
However, on General Hospital, people have a way of turning up again. In March 2024, GH fans saw that Jason didn’t actually die. Instead, he survived the tunnel collapse, was taken away by armed men and worked undercover for FBI Agent John “Jagger” Cates.
Notably, all of that happened because he shielded Carly from federal prosecution. Of course, his captivity also set up his return to the ABC show.
Once again, with Rocco, he’s taking the hit and the heat to protect someone he loves. It certainly seems that this is just something that he does rather well, if a bit too regularly.
Current Exit
Steve Burton’s currently on his planned hiatus from the show, with his exit storyline airing right now. He’s expected to return later this summer, and it will be interesting to see how that pans out for his character.
