General Hospital (GH) fans know Joshua Benard from the ABC soap as Adam, but he was also on HBO’s The Rehearsal in 2022, and this week, his dad, Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos), revealed that his son once gave him a backhanded compliment. Read on to find out more.
A Funny Memory
Taking to his Instagram on Thursday, the veteran GH actor shared some photos from The Rehearsal. Then, in his caption, he shared something Joshua had once said to him.
Maurice wrote, “I’ll never forget when my son @jjbenard was working on The Rehearsal.”
Why was that? Well, Maurice Benard asked Joshua who the director was. In reply, Joshua told him that @nathanfielder is “an incredible director and he’s more famous than you are. Dad 😎”
Ouch! Well, at least Maurice can laugh at himself.
Maurice Benard Confirms The Show
Some fans hadn’t heard of The Rehearsal, and one of them asked more about it. Maurice replied, saying, “it’s called the rehearsal on HBO.”
Others were a bit confused because Joshua played the role of Adam on the HBO show. But he also played another Adam on General Hospital. In GH he brought to life the character of a troubled PCU student.
Meanwhile, on the HBO show, he was the teen version of Angela’s pretend son.
Fans React
Other fans of the ABC show responded to the post by Maurice. One of them wrote, “I love how close you are with your son.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- “Your son is so talented. Takes after his dad.”
- “He was fabulous in the show.”
- “THAT WAS YOUR SONNY??!? 😂 the crossover I needed.”
- ” gotta love our kids honesty.”
- “Bring him on GH he’d be amazing there.”
Joshua On GH
Of course, he’s already been on General Hospital. Joshua first appeared as a young version of Sonny in a 2018 “What If” special. The 13-year-old acted in the parallel storyline where Sonny turned away from crime to live within the law.
Later, he returned to GH as Adam, who was a classmate studying pre-med who met Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy). ABC fans saw him return a few times in 2022, and then sporadically in September 2023 until February 2024.
Some folks still hope he returns one day.
A New Music Career
These days, Joshua gets a lot of support from Maurice Benard as he builds his music career. Often, his dad will shout out his songs, and the young man is starting to get a following.
