General Hospital (GH) star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) took to social media recently and shouted out Brick (Stephen A. Smith) and his excellent acting ability.
A Shoutout For Smith
On Thursday this week, Maurice Benard took to his Instagram account and shared a photo of himself with the man with secrets. The photo showed the GH duo both dressed in suits and Brick had his arm around the shoulders of the mob boss.
In his caption, Benard wrote, “Guess who I’m working with today @stephenasmith You know it’s funny. Nobody knew whether Stephen could do the job. He opened his mouth to say his first lines and I knew we struck gold 🥊”
How Did ABC Fans React?
Most of the General Hospital fans who saw the post reacted well, and one of them commented, “Hey Stephen A! Always love seeing you on the show with Maurice. You guys are amazing .”
Another appreciative daytime soap fan wrote, “His character is so good! The more screen time the better ❤️”
Then this comment arrived: “Yesssss! @stephenasmith AKA Brick always brings it!”
Someone else penned, “@mauricebenard ❤️and they need to fall back off of Sonny! But I know ya’ll will handle it. That mess got me ruby red hot!👏😂”
But not everyone cheered. A few people don’t like the character in Port Charles and one critic said, “Ew. Absolutely not.”
Meanwhile, another one opined, “Double thumbs down 👎👎”
The Brick Backlash
Why the hostility? Well, most fans like Stephen A. Smith, but for some of them, perhaps his real-life swagger from ESPN annoys them, making it difficult for folks to separate real life from characters.
The bottom line is that Brick’s been around as a recurring character for about 10 years now, and Maurice Benard, a longtime GH veteran, gets along with Smith on and off the set.
Brick has become a familiar face in Port Charles over the years, although every so often folks don’t get to see him on the show because he works in the background doing what spies and investigators do, discreetly.
Spoilers and Speculation
Spoilers suggest that there will be secrets, surprising connections, and fresh romances ahead. Brick wasn’t specifically mentioned, but with Carly Spencer and Valentin Cassadine caught up in the investigation into Jack Brennan’s murder, it’s possible that Sonny might call on his trusted security expert to do some digging.
