General Hospital spoilers indicate the Port Charles Police Department has seen its fair share of good detectives and special investigators over the years, as well as many officers on the force who are worth mentioning. We’ve also seen several Police Commissioners come and go, but which one really reigns supreme as the best Commissioner the PCPD has had thus far
General Hospital Spoilers — Robert Scorpio Lands the Job
From January 1983 to December 1985, Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) served as the Police Commissioner at the PCPD, and he also served to teach us what we can expect in the role that would become a major figure in GH storylines for decades to come. Robert spent many years in and out of working for the WSB, and he returned to the role of small-town-metropolis Police Commissioner in 1988 for four more years.
General Hospital Updates – Anna Devane, Take Four
When Robert left the PCPD in 1985, his two times-wife, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), became the Co-Chief of Police. Her one-year term would advance to making her Chief of Police, which came to a halt in May of 1987. Anna was also a WSB agent and much of her time on GH has been spent traveling off to undocumented locations to kick butt and take names. She did dabble in work as Acting Police Commissioner again briefly when Robert needed someone to fill in for him, but he certainly wasn’t going to let Anna fill his shoes for longer than what was absolutely necessary.
In July 2012, Anna was once again named Police Commissioner, and she sustained that role for nearly three years. In more recent years, Anna’s work at the WSB has mellowed, and we’re enjoying the side of her that is willing to put her career on the table while she explores her personal life with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) a bit more).
General Hospital Spoilers — The Scorpios And Their Friends
From 1992 and for three years onward, Sean Donely (John Reilly) filled the enormous shoes Robert left behind, just after assisting him and Anna in tacking down Cesar Faison (Anders Hove), who was angling for forcing Anna to marry him. But that wasn’t originally how it was supposed to go. Donely, a fellow WSB agent, had been helping Faison in his pursuit of breaking Anna and Robert apart, but ultimately decided to side with the good guys. He stepped into the role of Police Commissioner when Robert and Anna were presumed dead after a boat explosion. As if Anna and Robert weren’t enough, Scorpio (John J. York) also played the role of Police Commissioner from May 1996 through June 2012.
General Hospital Updates — A Few Honorable Mentions
In 2020, an episode aired in which a brief reference was made to Police Commissioner Cromwell back in the 1920s — and that’s the entirety of what we know. Perhaps GH writers will elaborate on this more someday. Maybe Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) will write a book about a salacious affair her grandmother has with the prohibition-era commish, but until then, we’ve got nothing.
Another honorable mention includes Sergeant Guy Lewis (Don Dolan), who was Acting Police Commissioner briefly in 1991, and he lamented over the position the entire time. Doing it as a favor while Robert was busy assisting his brother, Mac, Guy was eager to go back to being the Chief where he felt comfortable.
Last but not least, Kyle Sloane (Grayson McCouch) served commish for just a few months in 2015 but ended up being fired for a slew of bad behavior, the least of which was rigging the mayoral election. It’s safe to say he’s definitely not the top pick for best Police Commissioner of Port Charles.
Jordan Ashford Brings the Most Drama
It’s hard to choose just one Police Commissioner as the best for Port Charles. They’ve all carried the role so well, but Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper) has held it down for some time now. Fans are really enjoying the deeper glimpse into Jordan’s private life, versus painting her as a workplace figure only. There’s been better contrast between law-related problems, and personal problems with Jordan than there has for past commissioners. Even most of Anna’s troubles in her personal life were always wrapped up in espionage and WSB fugitives. It looks like the fans are welcoming this change in dynamic for the role. Of course, while Jordan might be the most entertaining role for Police Commissioner, it’s subjective whether she’s the best leader of law enforcement for the city of Port Charles. Who do you think has done the best job at keeping Port Chuck citizens safe while maintaining ethics in office?
Let us know, and don’t go away. We’re dishing out more GH news, updates, and spoilers all day.
