General Hospital Spoilers: It Could Have Been A Real Story
It’s been 10 whole months since Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Julian (William deVry) fell off a bridge in Secaucus, NJ and Sonny somehow washed up in Nixon Falls, PA, defying geography everywhere. We suspended our knowledge of the reason and our disbelief to go along with this story in which Sonny couldn’t remember who he was yet somehow turned into Julian Jerome.
His mind wouldn’t allow him to remember his mob past and Julian wanted out of the mob. So, both donned plaid shirts and started tending bar. There was actually something interesting happening with that but alas, it went nowhere.
Yes, we got the whole soapy part of Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) finding him, deciding to keep his identity a secret, and then falling in love with him. And while we would have liked to see Sonny explore the feelings Smike developed for Nina, we accepted him hightailing it home on Jax’s jet (while knowing for months spaghetti sauce would be the tip-off that this mobster was alive).
GH Spoilers: A Wedding Night Climax…That Wasn’t
We even accepted the fact that Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) decided to marry for the sake of the business, groaned when they decided they were suddenly in love, and then married in a lavish wedding that even Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) supported despite what Carly did to her late son, AJ. We knew Sonny was heading home. We knew Jason and Carly couldn’t wait to get into bed.
We even cringed when we realized Carly took Jason to the bedroom she shared with Sonny but told ourselves it was ok because at least Sonny would walk in on Jason and Carly in the act the same way Jason walked in on Sonny and Carly in the act all those years ago.
Well, at least we THOUGHT that was going to happen because this is a SOAP OPERA and that is how it is SUPPOSED to happen. Sadly, nobody bothered informing the writers they were scripting a soap opera because Sonny walked in on Jason and Carly still fully dressed, Carly fainted, Jason embraced Sonny as if he should have married him and not Carly, and the new Mr. and Mrs. Morgan spent the rest of the episode recapping what Sonny missed while he was Smike for the last 10 months.
Jason and Carly even got to the part where they got married to save the business but left out the suddenly in love part. Sonny thought it was a great strategy. Not mad at all. Everything is fine. And…that was it. No emotional scenes, no anger, no longing, no drama — essentially, yeah, I’m back. Thanks for keeping the home fires burning. Where’s my moss? Stay tuned to General Hospital weekdays to see if it turns into a soap opera again.

Yup, where's the freakin' moss?!
this is a great perspective on the mess we've been fed for the last 10 months
Yes, this article is just about as good as Sonny’s return.
However, I am glad that Sonny didn’t catch them in bed. I don’t want Sonny to have any reason to be angry at anybody but Nina.
I sure hope we won’t have to wait the entire next week for people, i.e. Carly and Michael and Jason, to find out who is responsible for keeping Sonny away and causing so much pain as well as danger for those in P.C.
I loved the ending This soap will not be the same without the bond Sonny, Carly, and Jason share! More story to come but this bond is the foundation of the soap!!
I was relieved Sonny didn't walk in on them in bed! I expect as time goes on there will be suspicans and doubts on both sides. Sonny reads people very well. I hope Jason goes after Drew and brings him home. Maybe he and Britt will be close again. Bring Leisle back to Scot!
