General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal GH has temporarily recast Asante Jones to replace Réal Andrews as Marcus Taggert. Fans were shocked to see Jones reappeared on GH on April 12 since Andrews returned to his role after Jones first appeared in December 2020.
Asante Jones in Law Enforcer Roles
This is not Asante Jones’ first time playing as a cop. The American actor has been frequently cast as a law enforcer.
The actor studied acting and lightning at Cleveland’s Karamu House Theater. It was in 2000 when he got his first role as a cop in the television series Diagnosis Murder. Since then he has appeared in various series and movies such as Agents of Shields, Rosewood, Scandal, Henry Danger, Hawaii Five-0, CSI, NCIS, NCIS: LA, iCarly, and Criminal Minds. He is famously known as Detective Walker in the film I Am Wrath.
Réal Andrews’ Health
Fans had been concerned with Andrews’s health when he had opened to the public in September 2019 with past challenges he had faced on being diagnosed as a bi-polar after getting sober from opiates and alcohol while he was recovering from hip surgeries. The actor had gone into another surgery on December 17, 2019, in a battle against cancer.
His fans’ concerns had intensified when he was being replaced as Lieutenant Taggert in 2020, but Andrew quickly answered all the speculations about his health. The actor hopped on Instagram and posted a video update saying he is cancer-free.
“I’m very healthy and in good hands. God’s got me,” the actor concluded.
Now the actor very active on his Instagram account promoting Holistic Nutrition.
The soap did not disclose the reason for Réal Andrews’s absence this time but they promise it will only be temporary and that he’ll be back again in Port Charles soon. Fans are also hoping that his absence is not related to his health concerns.
Temporary Recasting as Common for Day Show
GH has done numerous recasts in the show. The character Brook Lynn portrayed by Amanda Setton was filled in by Briana Lane when Amanda had left for maternity leave. Briana Nicole Henry had also temporarily rested due to COVID-19 infection and Tiffany Daniels filled in as Jordan
Years ago, the show had also recast Matthew St. Patrick as Taggert from 1997 to 1998. But the role was originated by Andrews and first appeared in December 1996. Andrews returned in 1998 and since then he continued to portray the character as a cop until May 2003. The character had a comeback in January 2020.

Sorry to say but I do not like this taggert see I was right the writers undermine me see I told fans will start like them if they giving a better story I keep trying to tell them and I was right so as long they keep doing that we are good I even love Friday it was really good as long they keep up the good work we won’t have a problem they say juicy development can’t wait hopefully they don’t let us down like they have been
