General Hospital (GH) fans dive into the ABC daytime drama’s dark history this week as villain Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) might sit in the middle of storylines again. However, the current storyline for Port Charles might be better understood by revisiting the archives. Read on for more details.

The Port Charles Archives

On the Pier 54 podcast late on Wednesday night, Amanda and Shannon took a deep dive in their episode titled “Episode 731: Cesar Faison Part 3 (1999 – 2000).” In the discussion, General Hospital fans heard them speaking about the days when the “psychopath” Cesar Faison made life a living hell for the Spencer family.

Interestingly, the trip down memory lane focused on the time that Faison lurked in hiding in Switzerland under the alias “Mr. Craig.” GH fans will recall that he posed as a “jewelry broker and thief.”

While Faison and Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) shared a tense history involving the “Ice Princess diamond,” the villain plotted some string-pulling that changed the ABC show forever.

A Captive Connection

According to the hosts, one of the most chilling parts of the era involved Faison’s obsession with a young Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson). In fact, Faison watched Lucky on “multiple monitors.” Meanwhile, everyone else believed he had died in a terrible fire.

Recalling the “heartbreaking and tasteful” memorial service, the hosts noted how Faison specialized in the “illusion” of death. Initially, Faison used Lucky as leverage, but the “Spencers could be so entertaining” to him that he turned their torment into a game.

As the sick story played out, ABC viewers saw that Cesar Faison forced Lucky into a “twisted rescue game.” He made him play chess for “one truthful answer” for every match won.

Additionally, he used “security cameras” to prove he could reach anyone at any time. And, he posed a possible threat to teenager Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst).

Fans Feel Some Affection for Faison?

That wasn’t only the main story, because the hosts also talked about how fans of GH love dark stories, and in particular, the “horrible” personality of Faison. One of the hosts mentioned that Faison makes the “perfect heel,” comparing him to a wrestling villain you love to hate.

Despite his “swagger” and “debonaire” attitude, he remains a “Goon.” For a bit, they argued whether Faison found death “magnificent.” But probably, he probaly really celebrated the “magnificent explosion” of a boat.

Bringing In Current Scenes

Next, the conversation touched on the current 2026 storyline involving Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms). Of course, the actress returned after her “coma” on GH, and the next thing, Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) popped up in her life again.

How is Faison connected? Well, historically, he was always masterful at faking a death and switching “medical records.” So that sort of storyline isn’t “unheard of” when it comes to his influence on new storylines.

What do you think about Faison’s “attention to detail” when it comes to faking deaths? Do you think the current mystery in Port Charles leads back to the olden-days way the producers portayed crime?
