General Hospital (GH) cast members Cameron Mathison (Drew Cain) and Laura Wright (Carly Spencer) share devastating memories each October, and this week, the two daytime soap actors sent each other some comfort.

Cameron Posts About His Mom

On Monday, Cameron Mathison took to his Instagram and shared some photos of his mom, Loretta Mathison.

In his caption, he wrote a sweet tribute to his late mom, saying, “5 years without you, Mom. You loved us with everything you had, and you were always there cheering us on. I carry that love with me every single day. Miss you endlessly.”

In the comments section, many ABC fans felt sad for Cameron, and so did Laura Wright. She turned up in the comments and said, “Big hugs friend.” She added, “we are just days apart.”

One fan assumed she talked about her own mother and asked, “Laura, did your Mom pass?”

The answer to that is that sadly, her mom, Betty Sisk, died in October 2018. Soap Opera Spy reported that Laura Wright kept her fans informed about her mom’s ill health, which included Betty having emphysema and struggling to breathe and walk.

Loss was compounded when Laura’s dad also passed away just weeks later. And that explains why Cameron Mathison told Laura in the comments this week, “I know😢❤️🙏🏼 sending love your way.”

What Happened To Cameron’s Mom?

As for Cameron, you might recall that he fought hard against his own kidney cancer. Then his mom, Loretta, passed away from brain cancer in 2021. A few weeks later, Soap Hub reported that Mathison was the emcee at “The Gateway for Cancer Research Gala.”

At the time, he wrote on his Instagram:

About 15 days after my mom lost her battle with brain cancer… I knew it was going to be a tough one for me. When Gateway heard of my mom’s passing they told me they would understand if I needed to cancel, but I knew I had to be here for this. For my mom, for my own cancer journey, and for the millions of others affected by this horrible, relentless disease.

Fans React

In the post where both General Hospital stars were missing their moms, many ABC fans sent in their love. One of them wrote, “Sending big hugs. It’s never easy.”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • “Sending you so much love Cam. Your mom was so beautiful inside and out. She was always such a light and joy and always smiling. Now she is right by your side every step of the way guiding you..”
