General Hospital (GH) star Jonathan Bennett, who plays the role of Detective Joe Fitzpatrick on the ABC soap, and his husband, Jaymes Vaughan, shared an advocacy post about health, but they managed to make it sound hilarious. Talk about destigmatizing something rather intimate with humor! Read on to find out more.

The Advocacy Post

Jonathan and Jaymes often make ABC fans laugh because their pranks bring tons of smiles to their followers. This week, they jointly shared a post on Instagram about getting colonoscopies.

In the caption, they wrote, “Get your colons checked please. It can literally save your life.” And as it was a serious message, they got a shout-out from the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.

Their comment said, “Thank you both for sharing! The more we can destigmatize colonoscopies, the more lives we can save.”

The Hilarious Description

In the reel, Jaymes and Jonathan sat together and described their experience, and they soon got General Hospital fans giggling. Jonathan started by yelling out to viewers, “Do you wanna see inside my colon?”

Then they both shared that they “have the results,” and Jonathan described it as “the best nap of your life.”

Jaymes explained that Jonathan went first and they were put in a room together. According to Jonathan, it was so they “could hold hands.” Jaymes clarified, “But not during the procedure.”

They described the procedure as simple, with someone sticking something in your arm and checking your vitals. Jaymes explained that they made him “put on a gown,” but he wasn’t comfortable because it was open at the back.

While Jonathan Bennett explained that it’s normal to have a gown with an open back for a colonoscopy, for obvious reasons, “they need to get in there,” Jaymes objected because it was “wide open.”

Jonathan Went First

Jonathan went first for his colonoscopy, and he was totally impressed with the “mood lighting.” He liked it because, as he pointed out, “I don’t want them to do that without setting the vibe.”

However, they both agreed that they fell asleep so fast that they couldn’t stress about what was actually going to happen.

Afterwards, a doctor showed them their results. Jaymes joked that the doctor told him his colon “was pristine.” But the result simply said “normal,” which made him feel a bit disappointed.

Jonathan Got Worrying News

Meanwhile, Jonathan claimed the win. Why was that? Well, it turned out he had “three polyps” that the doctor had to remove. Jaymes was groggy, but he caught on right away when he heard about the polyps.

Just as well the duo went in because after removing the polyps, Jonathan said they were found to be “the precancerous kind.” But he did clarify they are “not cancer.”

Still, he has to go for a colonoscopy every three years, while Jaymes only has to go every ten years. Still, he joked that Jaymes could keep his “pristine colon.”

But seriously, he told his followers, “Get a freaking colonoscopy,” because his checkup “might have saved my life.”

Fans React

In the comments section, GH fans loved that they were advocating for such an important health issue. But they also adored their banter in the reel.

One of them wrote, “😂😂😂😂 But in all seriousness you guys made it way less scary for me ❤️”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • “I’m glad everything came out okay for you guys. It’s good to have the Peace of Mind, and you’ll get a good nap every few years.”
  • “Conversations like these save lives. Thank you both for sharing 💙👏”
  • “Go get your colonoscopy!!! Detective Fitzpatrick and his real husband say so 😂😂❤️❤️❤️.”
