Maurice Benard Dance Gets GH Fans Remembering A Rock Legend
The General Hospital veteran showed off his moves while celebrating one of music's greatest performers.
General Hospital (GH) veteran Maurice Benard, well known for his role as Sonny Corinthos on the ABC daytime soap, often shares glimpses of his life away from the set. This week, he got his fans reminiscing about the ’80s. Read on to find out why.
Dancing Grandpa
Maurice sometimes shares reels of his grandchild, TT, dancing, but he also enjoys dancing himself. Not long ago, he surprised someone in his dressing room by jiving to loud music.
This time, it looked like he was at home when he started dancing. The screen showed Freddie Mercury, and you better believe that Maurice is a huge fan of the late singer.
In his Instagram reel, Maurice Benard danced, and then in his caption, he said, “I’m a huge Queen fan, Freddie Mercury fan. One of the best voices in history, one of the best showmen in history. They don’t make them like they used to.”
The music he danced to? Of course, it was one of Queen’s most famous songs, which never seems to get boring. He played “Another One Bites the Dust.“

A Successful Career
When Freddie Mercury died, many people remembered exactly where they were and what they were doing. Interestingly, the British singer was born in Zanzibar.
The AIDS Monument website reminds followers that Freddie’s real name was Farrokh Bulsara and that he also spent part of his childhood in India. By 1964, he was living in the UK.
Did you know that he worked various jobs while developing his music career? At one stage, he worked as a baggage handler, and he also sold second-hand clothing and artwork at Kensington Market.
Brian May and Roger Taylor had previously played together in a band called Smile. Mercury joined them in 1970 and persuaded them to adopt the name Queen. John Deacon joined the following year, completing the classic lineup. To this day, the music they produced remains extremely popular.
When Did He Pass Away?
Mercury died in November 1991. Rumours about his health had begun circulating in 1986, and he was reportedly diagnosed with HIV in 1987. However, he did not publicly confirm that he had AIDS until November 23, 1991, the day before his death.
