General Hospital Spoilers: Sonny Makes Laura a Huge Promise – Is He Really Done With the Mob for Good?

General Hospital Spoilers: Sonny Makes Laura a Huge Promise – Is He Really Done With the Mob for Good?General Hospital spoilers and updates tease Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) will make a promise to Laura Collins (Genie Francis) on the ABC soap this week. Might he promise to Laura that he’ll never return to the mob, and stick to it this time?

Key Takeaways:

  • Sonny tells Laura he intends to stay out of the mob for good.
  • Laura is relieved by Sonny’s decision to pursue a legitimate future.
  • Jason’s exit and the collapse of Sonny’s biggest enemies make the timing ideal.
  • Sonny sets his sights on General Hospital, Corinthos Coffee and new business opportunities.
  • The big question: Can Sonny resist returning to his old ways when trouble strikes?

Laura Is One Of Sonny’s Important Friends And Family He Hasn’t Told His Decision To

Laura is one of Sonny’s important friends and family he hasn’t told his decision to leave the mob to-and she definitely needs to know, and not just because she’s the mayor.

Sonny and Laura have known each other for years, since she was with Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary), but they also share  a grandchild, Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr). One of the most controversial, in some Port Charles citizens’ eyes, aspects of Sonny and Laura’s friendship has been his mob affiliation.

Now Sonny tells Laura he’s out of the mob for good, and he intends to make it stick this time-the only time he has been totally out is when he was presumed dead.

That was when he lived as “Mike” in Nixon Falls, although he tried to leave after bringing down Frank Smith (Joe Cortese) but as longtime viewers know, it didn’t stick.

Now Seems Like The Perfect Time, With None Of The Five Families Active And Other Enemies Dispatched

Now seems like the perfect time, with none of the Five Families active and other enemies, such as Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) dispatched; Ross Cullum, (Andrew Hawkes) of course is dead.

And with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) also having left the mob and quit working for Sonny to focus on his own family, Sonny figured it was time to do the same, although he’ll be powerful in other, legitimate areas.

Sonny has joined the board of General Hospital much to the consternation and dismay of Tracy Quartermaine, (Jane Elliot) but Laura accepted him there.

Sonny hopes, for one, to regain his piers and expand Corinthos Coffee, and he’ll also be at the Sidwell auction hoping to take over some of his legitimate businesses.

Laura Is Happy And Relieved

Laura is happy and relieved, that after so many years things have come together for Sonny to be a legitimate businessman, and to be a  powerful force without being mobbed up.

Sonny is someone who needs to feel powerful but as he tells Laura, he knows there are other ways to do so besides guns and violence. Laura knows now she doesn’t have to worry so much about Sonny’s enemies coming for Rocco, or any of his other children or grandchildren.

Sonny, too, takes a breath of relief as he’s starting to see his plans come together. He may have some enemies still but they’ll be business adversaries, not mob enemies.
