General Hospital Spoilers: Maxie and Her Entire Family Exit Port Charles in Shocking Shakeup
General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal that following a lengthy absence from the screen, the ABC soap has confirmed the exit of Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms).
In the episode that aired on Thursday, July 23, it was revealed that Maxie, Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson), and their family are set to move to Australia, marking a significant departure for this long-standing character from Port Charles.
Why The ABC Soap Had To Write Out The Long Running Character
The latest development follows a challenging year for Storms and her character. The actress made her return to GH on February 12 after a six-month break, with Maxie waking up from a prolonged coma to discover that her deceased husband, Nathan West (Ryan Paevey), appeared to have come back to life.
A significant storyline for Maxie seemed ready to unfold, as it turned out that ‘Nathan’ was actually an impostor (the real Nathan’s twin, Cassius Faison, also portrayed by Paevey.)
He had developed feelings for Maxie’s best friend, Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening). However, Storms only appeared in a few episodes before Maxie vanished from the show once more.
June Found The ABC Soap Sending Maxie, Spinelli, And Two Kids Visiting The Grand Canyon
In June, GH addressed her absence by referencing Maxie’s extended trip to the Grand Canyon alongside Spinelli, their daughter Georgie Spinelli (Lily Fisher), and Bailey Lu Jones (Miley and Riley Plonski).
Meanwhile, Maxie and Nathan’s son, James West (Gary James Fuller), remained behind, with the last two episodes featuring James played by Easton Finn due to Fuller’s real-life accident.
Since July 2025, fans have been aware that Storms decided to move to Tennessee. This, coupled with her intention to prioritize her health and assist her daughter in adjusting to a new state, led her to take a break from the show, which was first seen on screen in August 2025.
Storms Revealed She Was Most Likely Not Returning To The ABC Soap
After her short return earlier this year, Storms shared her thoughts about her future with the soap in a social media post from June. It stated, “Regarding my future with GH… Considering everything that’s been happening in my life, I can’t confidently say I’ll be comfortable going back to Los Angeles and resuming work.”
Instead of keeping Maxie off-screen for an endless family getaway, GH provided a more lasting reason for her absence during the July 23 episode, when Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) disclosed that Spinelli had received “an incredible job offer” in Australia.
Maxie, Spinelli, Georgie, Bailey, and Maxie’s son, were set to leave for Down Under the next night, as they were “eager to escape Port Charles.”
In a further indication that Maxie is leaving for an extended period, she has sold her shares in her cherished company, Deception Cosmetics, to Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson).
Kirsten Storms Debuted As Maxie Jones In 2005, The Character Born In 1990
Storms made her debut on General Hospital as Maxie in 2005, after a successful stint on Days of Our Lives portraying Belle Brady and starring in Disney’s popular Zenon trilogy.
Maxie, the offspring of the beloved couple Frisco Jones (Jack Wagner) and Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner), was introduced to the series in 1990.
She has remained a pivotal character since her early years, famously receiving a heart transplant from her cousin B.J. Jones (Brighton Hertford), who tragically became brain-dead due to a school bus accident.
General Hospital has not provided any official updates regarding Storms’ role on the show.
Although Maxie’s relocation to Australia makes her imminent return to Port Charles seem unlikely, the series has certainly left the possibility of her comeback open for the future.
