General Hospital Maurice Benard Had A Waking Near-Death Experience?

Maurice Benard, who plays Sonny Corinthos on ABC’s General Hospital, hosted Elizabeth Morales on his State of Mind podcast. More recently, he shared a short clip from it where he was extremely emotional. Did he experience a Waking Near-Death Experience? Read on to find out.
Maurice Relates A Meditation Experience
Given that many people are mourning Charlie Kirk’s death right now, revisiting a part of the podcast from three weeks ago might be a good thing. Interestingly, Maurice related a story with a lot of spiritual significance. That’s not the sort of person people see on GH, but remember, he’s an actor, and Sonny Corinthos isn’t real.

The extraordinary tale came when Maurice started talking about a breakdown. He’s often candid about his mental health on the podcast, but this time, his story seemed rather incredible. He told Elizabeth Morales how he went to pray in a church. However, he wasn’t dressed right, so the priest chased him away. So, he took to other ways of reaching out through meditation.
Waking NDE?
You might have heard of people who die and come back in surgery and that sort of thing. Well, a waking NDE is when you don’t nearly die, but see similar visions of the afterlife. That seems to be what Maurice Benard experienced. He told Elizabeth Morales all about it.

Maurice recalled a specific meditation where “you walk downstairs very slowly” to a door. This door became his gateway to heaven. He opened it to find “green grass like a football field.” Plus, he mentioned, “roses over here on the right, waterfalls,” and a building.
The Vision Felt Real
The ABC actor explained that he felt clear-headed, which was unusual for him during meditation, and he found himself lying on the grass. When he opened his eyes, he saw his dad, “Clear as day, man. Clear as day.” They hugged and talked before he left.
Maurice Benard then started doing this meditation with “everybody who has died in my life,” and eventually, with “everybody at the same time who has died.” Unsurprisingly, he described the feeling he got from the experience as “amazing.”
More Details Followed
When he told his mother about what he saw, she sent him a book she was reading about “a little boy who went to heaven.” Notably, the real-life Sonny felt astounded when the picture in the book was the “same” as the one he saw in his vision. Even down to “the building, and the waterfall.”
He explained that because of this experience, he no longer fears death. He elaborated, saying, “I used to be afraid of dying and I think it made my bipolar and anxiety and everything worse being afraid to die. Now I’m not. I just I just feel like I’m going to go somewhere and whether I do or not, i can hope.”
