Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) and Sawandi Wilson (Dr. Isaiah Gannon) from General Hospital got together this weekend and talked about grief. As it’s something most people can relate to, there was a lot of interest by ABC fans. Read on for more. 

GH Star Maurice Benard Chats On State of Mind Podcast

The State of Mind podcast by Maurice is popular and has nearly 150K subscribers on YouTube.  Plenty of people chat with him there, like former GH Carly actress, Sarah Joy Brown. About a month ago, the GH crime boss spoke with Jonathan Jackosn, (Lucky Spencer). 

In real life, Maurice Benard, much like his character, Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital is big into his family. And, that family extends to other cast members of the long-running ABC drama. Sawandi Wilson as Isaiah Gannon is still quite new to the GH show, but Maurice put him at ease when they chatted on the podcast this Sunday.

Grief is never easy to talk about. So often, people don’t know what to say. Therefore, it can become awkward. But, not between Isaiah Gannon and Sonny Corinthos. GH fans who watched the podcast appreciated learning more about Sawandi Wilson’s life. And, ABC fans appreciate it because he only joined the cast in September.

Maurice Benard got Sawandi Wilson to open up about his childhood. He said that he was the “youngest of four,” and as his siblings were much older, he was “home alone a lot.” So, his mom and dad were like his “best friends.” Sadly, he lost his dad “last year.” The General Hospital  star said, “That hit me in a place I wasn’t ready for.”

Maurice Benard encouraged Sawandi to speak more about the stages of grief. Sawandi added, in part:

[Dad] died of complications from diabeties and he also needed another kidney transplant. Grief looked ‘ignore it.” Like it ‘never f–king happened and just keep going”… [But], you’re grieving, you’re in a lot of pain. I went to work during ther actors strike and out of nowhere, I break down.  I don’t even have words. I just couldn’t do [it] anymore.  

Fans Appreciate The Grief Reveal

There was a lot more, and General Hospital fans could relate to his painful journey. On Instagram, many of them appreciated him opening up to Maurice Benard. Here are some of their reactions:
